Gary Wilson? I will investigate now

Thanks kind sir! I am gonna look into all of them. I just finished creating my ultimate external harddrive that holds every piece of music i have ever bought, burned, or stolen. Also recently i have become obsessed with a strange man named Gary Wilson. Are you familiar with him?

John Lee Hooker - More difficult because his best work was not always on albums 'The Real Folk Blues' on Chess is pretty good, 'Hooker N Heat' is the earliest and best of his white boy collaborations, but I would go for one of
the compilations on the Charley label that features really early stuff like 'Going Mad Blues'

BB King - This is the easiest. ' BB King Live At The Regal' is maybe the best electric blues album ever, recorded in the mid sixties just before he fif 'The Thrill Is Gone' He defines electric blues lead playing on this album and it is still an all time favorite.

The Pogues... Like a lot of bands, I think they were at their best before they recorded. I saw them when they were still called Pogue Mahone (Gaelic for 'kiss my arse') at the George Robey pub in North London. 'Rum..' is my favourite, but 'If I Should Fall From Grace With God' runs a close second, and is well worth it. Avoid the post Shane Magowan stuff.

Billy Bragg = The early stuff is the best, when it was just him and his tinny electric guitar. The first proper album, 'Brewing Up With Billy Bragg' is good, but the 7 track ep that preceded it, 'Life's A Riot With Spy Vs. Spy' is the best. It has 'new England' and the wonderfully titled 'The Milkman Of Human Kindness' on it. Later stuff seems diluted and not so angry to me.

Things in sledgy world are slow again. My job ended working on a few flicks and now Im unemployed again with a looming actor's strike and the beginning of student loan payments starting next month. Im gonna be posting a mix tonight/tomorrow as well as uploading it. Its kind of a lovey dovey "for a girl" mix. Hopefully it doesnt make anyone throw up. Make sure to let me know when your band is playing around here btw. Also, sadly, I have to skip the Nick Cave concert as I have a short-term gig that whole week that wont allow me to do much. Im bummed out. Oh well. I guess there is always next time. Word has it that the next Grinderman album is done already. I dont know if its exactly your thing, but I got the Deluxe Edition of Dennis Wilson's OCEAN PACIFIC BLUE and Im digging it big time. It reminds me of living in Big Sur.

Bonjour matelot! Yeah, I am good. I was in your neck of the jungle laqst week. A music biz friend of mine from England was i Hollywood to mix an album and I went to see him at The Ch. Marmont where he waqs staying in bungalow 2, the one Belushi died in. I expected to be impressed with the Marmont, but it all seemed a bit sad, a shadow of something that might not even have existed in the first place. The place seemed full of 9 year olds wearing complimentary bathrobes and smoking cigarettes like it was not the first time they ever had. I was impressed with the big security guy by the underground parking who looked like Alexander O'neal, and given his failure to revisit the charts in the last twenty years possibly could have been. Despite my being underwhelmed at Chateau Marmite, it was hard to go to my ECono Lodge room inbetween the transexual hooker and the family from Bombay there to see movie stars!

Anyway, whats happening in Sledgy world? I have internet connection problems at the moment so my visits have been brief, but kit should all be sorted out later in the week.

Look forward to the mixes. I am listening to wall to wall Nick Cave right now getting ready for the Hollywood Bowl but I have been working on 2 mixes, one about disappointment, the other a 2nd mix of murder songs. Have fun in Oregon. I am off to Ventura for a couple of days, but I have to be back here for a gig Saturday night.

I believe hes super swamped at work. No news yet, but I am back in Oregon right now and will most likely see him this weekend, so I'll talk to him about it more.

In other news, I just finished a new mix and will be uploading it along with a few older mixes as soon as I get a chance.

The only time I saw him play was at a Tom Petty concert actually. He came out and played 3 or 4 songs with all of them. He was awesome.

Glad you liked the Portishead. I will be in touch about site ideas. At the moment, I am cobbling together a Bo Diddley tribute mix. That man was fucking it as far as I am concerned.

The only one Ive heard that is better from Coachella is this Daft Punk on I have, but the person combined a bunch of the bootlegs to get all the good sounding parts and layered some to get a fuller osund. This one is great though!

As far as the community here, it does seem like it is dying isnt it? I dont want that either. Eric and I actually discussed it over a romantic Chinese food dinner this past weekend and there might be some small changes going on. I'll let you know when I find out more.

It feels like this site/community/therapy center/ is fading away. I don't want that to happen. Hope you don't either!
