In those daysThe Comedy Store was a tiny club near Leicester Square in the West End of London and it was upstairs from a strip club. I remember meeting Rik Mayall a couple of times, and also Arthur Smith (my favourite line of his was "We were going to have a guest appearance by the impotent man but we've just heard he can't come") French and Saunders were often on the bill there as well. There was one guy called Gavin Leaky who I thought was as good as all the others, but as far as I know he was never heard of again. The Comedy Store is now in a bigger place nearby the original, and is mostly improv now.

I love those episodes, especially the one where ade blows up the apartment. I can't think of a favourite though because it's been a while since i saw them all. I know i had a definate favourite episode.... i just wish i could remember which...

WHat's your favorite "Young Ones" I think mine is the one when the very old stuff in the fridge comes alive, as well as the one where Ade blows up the apartment. i also treasure the guest appearance by Motorhead. I wanted to know what I had to do to get them to play Ace Of Spades in my living room. in the late 70s, a friend of mine used to do standup at the Comedy Store in London. ASlexei Sayle (the landlord) used to be the compare, and Rick Mayall, Ade Edmondson and Nigel Planer all worked on the characters they would play on "The Young Ones"
"Rik" used to come onstage dressed as he was in the show, saqying that he was a group of feminist poets.

Wow, i didn't notice that at all. I'm definately not giving up on the album. It's just going to be a while before i get it out again. His past few albums grabbed me from the first track, and this one didn't. I had already heard 'Dig Lazarus Dig!', which is great, but the rest flew right by me.

I would never give up on nick and the bad seeds this early though. Especially when people i know and trust are enjoying it.

I am well, but fed up kicking against the pricks as Cave might say. I know what you mean about 'Old Bad Seeds', but on repeated listenings, I think that on some songs he has chosen to revisit old themes and in one case old songs. I did think that 'More News From Nowhere' sounded like a slowed down rehashed version of 'Deanna' (a staple of the luddite all time top twenty) but on hearing it again, he does actually mention Deanna several times. This idea of rehashing old songs at a later date with new insight is something Neil Young has done a fair bit. I think it does work, but I hope NC does not do too much of it. I do like the album, but 'the Balck Keys' new one is dominating my playlist right now.

I'm well, how are you? I listened to the new nick cave album a few times and lost interest. I couldn't put my finger on the reason why i wasn't interested in it, but i've finally worked it out. I think i was wanting and expecting something new from them, you know? But this album just sounds like old bad seeds. So i was a bit disappointed. I haven't given up on it yet though. I'm going to listen to it again in a little while, but i think i need a break from nick for a while.
