...or is this site as slow as hoo-hoo sometimes? it's almost not worth it to even TRY and log on sometimes. does anybody else have this experience? i know there's only so much control the creators of the site have, but it's definitely interesting to hear.

yeah, it gets that way sometimes, but don't worry, it should be cleared up with the release of 2.0..
as the story goes, corey and eric created MTC, in all its glory and awesomeness, as a senior project for their CS major.. having to deal with massive time constraints (ie getting the project done and workable for reviews) they had to rush and do some programming that could be described as slightly inefficient. also, being college students, they didnt have the budget for a fancy, nice-ass server and had to go with what they could afford.
anyhow, rather than simply cleaning up the programming in 1.0, they decided to completely revamp the site, and take its awesomeness to an unprecedented, extremely awesome never before heard of super radical, bodacious, tubular level of awesomeness.
so in the meantime, we just get by and enjoy the radness of the site the way it is, deal with the periodic slowness (it gives us time to listen more closely to our beloved music and better contemplate the meaningfulness of our mixtapes), graciously awaiting the glorious day when 2.0 is released.

just a heads up... 2.0 won't kill all of the slowness...
but I am sure we will be moving to a new hosting provider shortly thereafter.
our current service is $10/mo. Great deal when you're in college... but hell, Eric and I both program for a living now, and after splitting the hosting bill, $5 works out to like 10 minutes of real work. Needless to say, we'd be cheap asses to stay with the $10/mo hosting forever.

$10/month? yeesh!
I pay $85/month for my server and it's probably 1/2 the price it should be (my friends own the machine and we fundraise for hardware upgrades and only have to pay for the co-lo)
