What does everyone else here think of TMV live? They opened for the Chili Peppers over the summer and, even though they played their instruments/sang well, they DIDN'T PLAY ANYTHING. It was just jam music for an hour. The two people I was with and I walked out of the arena halfway through and didn't go back in until the Chili Peppers started.

I've heard good things about them from others, though. Anyone else seen them?

thats what the do live. tangents within their own music & jam.

when they opened for APC in 2004 (i think it was) they played 3 songs for an hour and thirty min.

i guess youve really got to be into their music to appreciate them live. i can see how some people wouldnt enjoy them live.

The only time they ever played a set straight was on their first tour.

Uusally when they play they start off with a song, then transgress into another. Usually a medely with other songs of the same tuning and/or beat. Comedians kinda do the same thing. They will start with a joke, and tell you the punchline, Then later on as the big finish they will tell a different joke with a similar punchline.

I can enjoy hearing their songs in a different fashion live. I can get rather tired of listening to the same song over and over again. With TMV whenever i have seen them live its always different. If you havent picked up scabdates, go ahead a do it. It will give you a pretty good idea of how they sound live..

And yes you have to enjoy highly produced prog rock to have a lot of fun live.

About the APC tour, mars volta only got to use house sound guys on that tour, and they played at rather large venues. Not the ideal place to hear them play.

I can understand how it would be different if I had known their music, but I had only heard them a couple of times. And there were some hippies sitting next to us that smelled bad.

They are annoying live. And I do know their music. Standing and listening to that gets tiring.

i've heard they're real assholes, and it makes sense. but i love most of their music, and would probably see them live if they weren't only opening for big arena acts in portland.

lol, I heard about that.

I also heard about a QUOTSA concert, a fan threw a water-balloon or bottle or something onto the stage, and Josh Homme stopped the concert, pointed the guy out and told everybody to feel free to punch him after the concert or something. If that's true, then it's awesome.

I also heard that someone bottled My Chemical Romance or someone. That's cool, too.
