When Sacha Baron Cohen first started as Ali G in the UK a few years back, it was pretty fresh, but by the time he got his ifrst TV deal, some of the energy and vitality that made him a little interesting in the first place had dissipated. Now, with this new Borat charachter, it is pretty tired. I have always found the same thing with bands. You hear their original demos, and compare those with what they put out once they have a major label deal, and the spark has already all but gone. Borat's spot on SNL last week was not good.

The movie looks pretty funny, but yeah, there might be a bit of oversaturation going on. He's already signed for a Bruno movie, and that's not even as good of a character.

Its the only thing that really is funny. I mean.

Look at a movie like "The Man With Two Brains". It was hilariouse(SP?) during its time but its become stale.

Borat is the new wave. Its great fun.

I've never seen any of his stuff before commercials for Borat, so it's still funny to me.

Goto youtube and type in "The Ali-G Show". You will get some funny stuff. By the same guy.

I never liked it. I think it's pretty ridiculous in a bad way.

i got fairly tired of the ali-g show when it came out on dvd. it's sad that most of his movie is taken from the show.. but i can understand how it would still translate into mass appeal for americans who never got exposed to his original "incarnation"


i just really really really really really hope they dont do a bruno movie. i cannot stand that character for more than 3 minutes, and even that is pushing it.

whats great about that is sasha cohen (the real dude) is jewish.

I know. :P He's kind of obviously Jewish cos his name is Cohen and all... it's lolin'.

Last night G4 aired an "Icons" special on him and covered his birth to the start of Borat in about 20 minutes. I felt ripped off. Hardly even talked about the Ali G show.

I haven't really seen much of Sasha's work other than the occasional internet clip here and there, so I'm not tired of it yet.

And let me tell YOU-- I just saw the movie tonight and almost peed my pants laughing. I think it was one of the few times I appreciated a theater packed full of people, because the comments from others were great. Plus a third of the audience was dressed up at Borat and/or Kazakhi women.
