description:
This is the most recent mix CD I made. It's for some guy called Jack on MySpace. It's not as creepy as it sounds, I'm part of a "MixSpace" community where you trade mixes. Anyway I was getting tired with my previous mixes, so I tried to mix things up a bit (no pun intended) and try some different bands. The guy who will be getting this said he was into female singers at the minute, and his all time favourite bands are Biffy Clyro, Sigur Ros and Mogwai, so I've tried to incorporate stuff that are in those kind of circles. I'm quite proud of it.

Track 4 from Cockahoop
Length: 00:03:02
Year: 2003
Track Description:
Formerly lead singer of Catatonia, one of my all time favourite albums, the lovely little country solo album Ms Matthews produced was horribly overlooked. Despite singing about suicide and the persecution of Native Americans this is a cute little ditty, and was co-written by the late great Joe Strummer.

Track Description:
I've always liked this band, but much of their debut album is a bit "soft" and lacking direction. This is one of thier newer efforts, and has a lot more balls to it. It also has a great chorus "Emergency! Emergency! Someone acted honestly"

Track Description:
Forgive me if the track and artist details are incorrect, this is a random MP3 I've picked up. It's striking electronic beats have previously sounded too dissonant to fit into my other mixes. So I just decided to go for it this time. It may not necessarily be the best "flowing" song but it's incredibly moving.

Length: 00:02:44

Track Description:
One of my favourite bands in the UK. How their mixture of Arcade Fire and Radiohead is not massive on these shores yet I don't know. This was the only song from their first EP that hasn't been on a mix of mine. That isn't to say it's not great. The overlapping vocals build up like The Beach Boys "I get around"

Track Description:
Street-punk from the dirty backstreets of London. I like to think of this band as my own little secret, and while that's not really the truth, they are going to be huge and I've been one of the first few people to hear the EP this song is taken from. In the vein of the Libertines and Arctic Monkeys, only better.

This is a cover of someone whose name escapes me. This is a B-side to the "You are on my frequency" single, and features Jenny Owen Youngs on vocals. It's a lovely summer pop song, and seeing as it's summer, I thought why not? This is also where I took the title for the mix from.

Vitriolic post-hardcore. In my view the best live band Britain has to offer. This track from their debut album always makes me want to dance, and leaves a smile on my face. It's just so...fun to listen and (I imagine) to perform live. All rock bands should be this good.

Track Description:
Melachony post-rock. Sweeping, dreamy I've been waiting for the right chance to slot this song into a mix, and I think it works well between Hell is for Heroes and Thursday. A friend of mine describes them as "Radiohead befoe they started playing Star Wars instruments". Which I think is a pretty accurate definintion.

Length: 00:04:12
Year: 2006
Track Description:
With the exeception of Green Day and (maybe) Catatonia, the post-hardcore sextet are possibly my all-time favourite band. Despite what the scenesters say I think their new record is better than Full Collapse. This piano-led UK bonus track has a huge cinematic feel to it. Looking at Jack's MySpace picture so you can this huge desolate beach in Northumberland, and this song (and its title) just remind me of that.

Length: 00:02:48

Track Description:
Cover of an Elliot Smith track, by one of the best singer-songwriters around. I very nearly went with "Waste of Paint" from Lifted, but this track just sneaked it's way on at the last minute. I always try to include a live track on my mixes and this seemed to fit the bill nicely, especially as Conor finishes it with "thanks" and it fades out with applause.
