Below you will find the extracted and combined tags between derhay's and johnny_luddite's tagboard, arranged in chronological order for your viewing pleasure.Happy New Year. I've celebrated by listening to The Breeders and RJD2. THE REVIVAL starts NOW! (pause for effect) (crickets chirp) Any idea what song could be the theme for this revival?
1/2/11 8:01pm
We need a revival of this place and we need it now
12/10/10 6:39pm
the flirtation with the other group is over, back home at MTC for my sins. Hope you are doing well!

How you doing?Miss the old mixtaping days. Can't seem to get on with zenrunning order
11/17/09 2:44pm
Heard some unreleased Allmans Bros live from 1970 that just made me cry. Happy tears.
10/14/09 9:31pm
Thanks mate. I would prefer Colombo day myself, I always liked Peter Falk
Seriously, Happy Columbus Day

Hi. Sorry I didn't do that collaboration mix thing last month. I had every intention of doing it but it just kind of ran away from me.
8/10/09 10:50pm
You logged in 8 hours ago? Glad to know you are still among the mixing, brother.

Tricks are not so good. Playing in Fresno this weekend which is pretty exciting. Saw Star Trek yesterday. I can't be objective, I have always loved Trek, except for that Enterprise show that was shite, but I did truly love it. I like Scotty being manic depressive and on speed. They brought back the green women which goes a long way in my book. Yeah, some special effects were a bit blurry, but everything is blurry to me these days. It was a cracking yarn, I cheered when 'my' spock showed up. I will go again.
5/9/09 4:57am
I remember you too! Tricks? Life continues on. Mrs. D is great with child and has not felt well for some time. I'm not fulfilling 100% of my hubby responsibilities 100% of the time. Like tonight, I am going to see Star Trek, and will not be helping out much at home.
I have my tickets to see The Detroit Cobras next week, Dent May the week after and then the Gogol Bordello (w. Man Man) and Neko Case shows near the end of the month. May is ripe with great concerts.
How are tricks?

Your new DH piccie reminds me of the Debbie Harry wearing a plastic bag as a dress poster that adorned my wall when I was 19 or so. Ahhhhh! Meanwhile, The Decemberists album is just brilliant. They even sound like Jethro Tull at some points, the rockier moments compliment the more usual sea shantie-esque ones. Briiliant. Great story too! Rock Operas are back!
3/16/09 5:51pm
I'm stoked for the new Decemberists album. My Brightest Diamond sings on it. "The Rake" is a amazing. The album will be played live for the first time, on my birthday, at SXSW in Austin! They really like me... too bad I'll be miles away.
3/16/09 8:26am
How's tricks? I am sorry I haven't got back to you about that mixtape you were working on. If you haven't put it together yet, I could still make some suggestions. Still reeling from the death of John Martyn.. That one hit me hard. Music wise, I have been listening to the new Frusciante album a lot. It is hard to get into but I am kind of impressed with it. On the japanese copy there are two extra tracks which perversely are my two favorite ones. I am happy Slumdog won at the Oscars;

For the record, I'm still checking out Seasick Steve. This is a link to Vetiver covering Hawkwind's "Hurry on Sundown".

Vetiver's Thing of the Past album has a cover of Fairport Convention's "Road to Ronderlin".

I watched The Go-Getter yesterday. Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward have a cover of Thompson's "When I Get to the Border" play during the credits. Both Zooey and M. are in the movie and Ward provides most of the musid for the film. Thought you might like to know on the Thompson love.

I liked the Dennis Wilson album first time around. There is a scratched up vinyl copy languishing with the rest of my collection in a friends attic in North London. Haven't got round to the reissue. Sledg has nothing but good things to say about it.
I can't understand the lack of interest in Seasick Steve on this side of the pond. I would have thought that anyone who went for White Stripes/Black Keys would be up for his stuff.

i AM GOING TO DO ANOTHER TWO ARTISTS LISTS. mY CONTEST ENTRY IS UP, BUT i SCREWED UP THE TAGS
1/7/09 3:12pm
I've had fun reading your favorite artists list. Thanks for the videos too. Glad you like my concert mix. Sorry if I snaked Nighy and/or The Black Keys (whackedtoollie has Zeppelin). Tomorrow is Bowie's birthday.

I haven't seen Cadillac Records yet, and it doesn't appear that any theater in the state is showing it right now. I drove 37 miles, yesterday, to see Frost/Nixonl There is only one theater in the state showing it, and it seemed to be the hot ticket on New Year's Day. I arrived to see the 1:10 show and was told I could sit on the first row, if I wanted to see it. So I watched Bedtimes Stories and caught the 4:10 F/N. Well worth the wait. Awards all around. Very compelling film. I'll read your inflluencial artists list on your blog and keep my eyes open for Cadillac Records. I'm making my list of 34 artists I want to be sure to hear throughout the year. So far, I have 8 artists/bands listed.
1/2/09 8:23am
Happy New Year to you Sir. Some stuff going up on my blog which may be of interest.
1/1/09 11:23pm
Hope Xmas was good. Have you seen 'Cadillac records'? Chess Records is kind of my special subject and I am wondering what other people thought. Some portrayals were better than others. The guy who played Howlin' Wolf really captured the intensity and scariness of the man I think. The Muddy Waters portrayal not so great, especially the vocal performances.
12/27/08 4:28pm
Cheers and merry Christmas. By the way, I posted a Mixtape with a London theme on Sledg's blog. I will sendspace it soon and I'll give you the link if you are interested.

I found a guitar solo you might be curious to hear. Howlin' Rain sounds like lost (real lost) Faces tracks. Please to enjoy and happy holidays.

I really like what I've heard so far. I'm only sampling the songs. Let me know when they are on iTunes and I will purchase them for love, and not for German engineering. I had some choice names for you when I first read your Halloween mix. Yet another great mix, jerk. :p
10/21/08 11:00am
What tags shall I add to the tracks, so that they show up on last.fm and beel and I can be the top listeners. Thanks for the music.
10/17/08 9:13am
Have you had a chance to hear the new Kings of Leon?

Who's your avatar?
btw - my son's name is Oliver. He has a new soundtrack now, thank you.

For what it is worth, you have my vote as a moderator here at MTC. How bad is the heat where you are? I'm not a fan of dry, mountain heat, yet I'm still here.

Thanks for the "Doctorin' the Tardis" track. Bitchin.

My nephew met Charlie Harper and "spoke" with him. He said all he understood from Charlie was "mate". He said the UK Subs was an excellent concert in Vegas last December.
3/5/08 7:46am
Thanks again for your dedication mix to me and getting me to drink The Slits kool-aid. Any new music floating your boat?
3/4/08 6:35pm
I received an acoustic guitar album that you might like. It has scratch'n'sniffs and samples of each song. Here is a link to the label page.

I especially like, so far, "Strawberry Man" and "One Forty Eight". Cheers. How 'bout that new year smell?

Yes, you certainly should make a dub mix. Just finished a mix for a kid I know that will be in Kingston, Jamaica for 23 months. I'm working on a car chase mix. Happy day o' thanks.
11/19/07 11:26am
Funny thing, when I was originally doing my King mix, I had King Tubby (St Lucia Dub) and Carole King (So Far Away) but with everything else pretty much blues (apart from Nat) I decided that their inclusion made the mixtape unbalanced so I cut them. I am thinking about doing a dub mixtape sometime in the future, with Tubby and Scientist and Eek A Mouse etc etc
11/19/07 10:59am
Cheers mate. My band are working tonight (my birthday) and tomorrow, but it is at a residency gig, so tonight is officially my party, so I get to have fun and get paid. Tomorrow night an old school friend from England who lives on the West Coast and who back in the day was in my first ever band is coming for the Saturday show. Next weekend my wife is taking me to Sacremento for four days as a late birthday treat so we can look at the train museum (I love trains) and go to the BB King blues fest with Etta James and Al Green, so I am in for a prolonged fun time!
8/31/07 12:21am
Yay! Happy 50th! I SAID, HAPPY 50TH!. tee hee I hope it is a great, memorable (in a good way) occasion.
8/30/07 11:15am
Sorry about Last FM, I don't really use it, but I went on today and you are now officially a friend (as is Sledg who asked me 238 days ago!) Richard Thompson is a singer songwriter guitarist, a founder member of Fairport Convention. The quality of his songs over the years is, well, you should give him a listen, and the new album Sweet Warrior, although not his best, is very very good.
'Baal' was shown on UK TV around 1981, and the 12 inch ep I have dates from that time. The music is different from anything else he ever did!

I am working on a mix specifically for you, stuff I know you will like and stuff I think you will like. It will be up soon
8/4/07 12:21am
I think I just officially okayed the reset. I hope you can understand. I'll be plugging away like I was, but without the imagined aftertaste I had of point surplus. I have a mix almost ready to post that you might like. I'm also working on one called The Mercyhurst Talent Show, that I think you might enjoy more.
8/3/07 8:17am
I with Sledge on this, keep on doing what you do, don't worry about points. I spend so much time here because I enjoy it, and I suspect you do too. Enjoyment seems in ever shorter supply these days, so please please please keep things as they are doing what you do!
8/3/07 12:25am
I am not into conspiracies, even when they are meant to be in my benefit. I just like posting mixtapes and enjoying what everyone else posts. You have a great weekend too. I have to go out all dressed up tonight and eat and listen to big band music. Certainly different for me.
4/21/07 4:05pm
I give your mixes +5 anyway, with no conspiracy. I can't wait to pass the crown, so to b.s., to the next MTC'r. Have a great weekend.
4/21/07 12:59pm
Congratulations on reaching the 19,000 point uh, point. Cheers.

Thanks mate... As for the Robert Smith thing, he appeared on Brit TV playing it as a Banshee guitarist, which is what I was basing it on, but I might well be right! I will have part two up in a day or two!
2/21/07 2:42pm
A trade sounds good. I will put together my version of a female vocalist mix and sendspace it to you.
2/17/07 7:47am
You wrote, "An excellent collection as you would expect. I would have added a blues diva or two, plus Joni and Bjork, but that is just me. Nice watercolor too. As Greg House quoted the philospher Jagger, "You can't always get what you want."
If space would have permitted, I might not have gone with Bjork, but I would include her song "Play Dead" for you. Part two would include Nina, The Mermaids, Marcia Griffiths, Billie, Cesaria Evora, Helene Smith, Gladys and others that make a wholly different blissed out compilation. You up for a trade?

I had most of that Ska stuff on vinyl. My vinyl collection is either back home in London, or in some cases sold off due to cash shortages. There was a store in Camden Town, "Rock On", owned by an Irish guy called Ted Carroll. (Thin Lizzy wrote a song about him called 'The Rocker') He had classic rock and roll vinyl (I got a Roy Orbison single on the Sun label there once. He also had loads of original ska and reggae. I got some great Studio One stuff there, and it was because of that store that I discovered people like Dennis Bovell, Dub Scientist, but also Toots & The Maytals. As I mentioned for the mix, I heard a lot of ska for the first time at fairgrounds, and would go to Ted Carroll's shop and try and sing what I had heard. Sometimes they gave me the wrong record, but what they gave me was usually as good if not better.
When the Ska revival came out, I bought many of the singles on the Two Tone label, as well as Go-Feet, which was the label The Beat recorded on. STiff records put out the first Madness singles, I think.

I only have 'Money' by the Flying Lizards on a compilation but I will email a friend for whom it will always be 1977, and see if he has anything else by them.
1/16/07 1:36pm
Do you happen to have any Flying Lizards ((other than "Money (That's What I Want)?)) I'm really hoping to find "Dizzie Ms. Lizzie" but I'll settle for whatever I can find. I watched Hiding Out, which features this song and I absolutely love it.
I'm reading Simon Reynold's Rip It Up and Start Again: Postpunk 78-84 and I'm learning about a lot of new/old bands.

Yes, reading about "Glory Box" was stirring. Thank you for sharing. That makes two times that I've been moved today. Seeing Children of Men and then reading your story about your life and Portishead. Have a great weekend, I'm glad to know you.

I'll find some Suzi Quatro and sendspace it! As for Sparks, they were around at the time of glamrock in the UK and tended to be lumped in with it at the time. It is funny how artists get pegged as being part of a particular genre because they happen to be around at the same time. In Britain, anything new that came out in 1976/77 was pegged in the media as punk/new wave regardless. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers for instance were described in the press as being a punk band, despite having their roots firmly in 60's Byrds folk rock territory! Like Bowie and a few others, Sparks outlived glam and any other labels.
12/15/06 5:05pm
Do you have some Suzi Quatro you could share? I've been reading in my NME Presents: GLAM magazine again and realized I still haven't heard anything from her. Do The Sparks really fall under Glam?
