I think it has more to do with being an obsessive nerd than it does with being cool. You're probably much better off unaware of British sketch comedy or Turkish psychedlic rock.

Macerata was nothing short of magical. A little medieval hilltop town about 20 miles west of the Adriatic. I studied abroad there for 4 months and visited so many towns and cities in that country, I couldn't begin to list them. But I did date a Macedonian who spoke no English, so our entire relationship was in Italian, which made me fluent by the time I left.
Unfortunately I never got to see Bologna or Venice, even though they were just a couple hours north. I'm completely infatuated with that country.

It was fun place to live. Beautiful place. The old people there were great. Just 70-80 year olds guys, smoking, drinking everday in the town square, acting like children.

I think Bologna may have been the best of Italy that I saw. We used to go there on the weekends, and I could just walk around all night in that city and not need anything but the city itself, just to look at it.

I never went Macerata, though. Rimini, Firenze, Napoli, Roma, Venice, Milan (for about an hour), Bologna...but no Macerata. How was that?

You lived in Ravenna?????! I lived just a short jaunt south in Macerata. I miss it every single day of my life.

But Ravenna... I thoroughly enjoyed that town and its lovely mosaics.
