Hey friend,
Glad you got your show on. I would love to see video footage. i am not doing so well. I am waiting to get sent to UCLA medical which feels like going to the Supreme court. If you don't get satisfaction there, there is no place to go. I think I may have to give up plasying which is depressing to me. I know I am not that good, but it is my life. I sat in with a country band yesterday just to try and keep my hand oin and I feel like shit today. Sorry, I am just really down right now.
I am doing a lot of mixtapes but not here. I am doing a 50 cd series looking at British music on Zen Running Order if you fancy a look. What I am doing right now is to try and work on a solo cd so that if I do have to retire I will have at least finally got something out. On the plus side, I am seeing a publisher mext week about getting a book out.

Hi dude- did the show! Didn't have that much in the way of sound and lights- was very minimal cuz of sucky producers and have a tape of show just waiting to edit it and get it out. Working on putting it up again in Jan/Feb for at least 4 shows, but it comes outta my pocket this time. I am broke like a mofo. trying to be good and all that jazz-- but most importantly HOW ARE YOU!
12/7/09 4:52pm
hey ho! Glad you have your show coming up, but sad that things have been tough also. I had more surgery on Spet 2nd and it proved a difficult one leaving a thirteen inch scar on my abdomen. My surgeon says that further abdominal surgeries are too risky. Weeks later I gigged despite being told not to because we needed the money and the result is that I have pain almost all the time and am trying not to be dependent on heavy duty pain killers. In other words, I am in a pretty bleak place myself although I am trying to keep busy. The book about my Dad's Alzheimers is coming on, albeit slowly. I would love for you to use some of my music. Give me some idea of what would suit you best (themes/vcl or instr, etc) and I could sendspace you some stuff to sift through. Back in the day I had built up some library music of instrumental stuff I had recorded, and some of that could work. Let me know. I keep my demons in a little box buried in the back yard but the little fuckers keep getting out. (I have no idea what that last sentence meant either.) Be well and let me know about the music. Speaking of music (you know, that stuff that used to be popular in the 60s) I had fun yesterday. A friend of a friend is writing a novel set in the early 80s London world of punk and proto goth bands and I spent an enjoyable 90 minutes on the phone yesterday helping fill in some background with my old man reminiscences, which was fun. Anyway, take care and let me know about the muzak! last thing, in a pitifully weakened state, I went and saw Fame last week. I am not going to livge forever but I am more than interested in learning to fly. Toodle Pip.

Hey there! I am alive! Believe it or not. Had to battle some demons and continue to, BUT I am doing my own show Oct 24th!!!! I would still love to use your music if you are still interested. I can take one of your original songs and work it into my show and I am going to tape it and would absolutely send you a copy. Let me know what you think. My show is called Turk in Progress and it's all my original writing (including Greeky to Miki).
Wow- I had and have a bit of a struggle with life. Not complaining, but I am pouring tons load of salt into my own wounds. If you find yourself in NY in OCT, your ticket is on me! That's for sure. How are you doing? How's tricks, your health, your guts, your wife, your friends, your band, your life?
Patrick Wilson came into the shop I work at today and I was star struck, had butterflies and stuff. He was very nice and his son is ultra cute. It was like I had a bolt of happiness, which was nice for a change. I know it's kind of silly, but it kind of brought me back to earth in a weird way. I don't know what I am talking about. blah blah blah Salud! B

The gigs should form the basis of a new story, and I shall write you such a beast soon. At the moment I am dealing with the fact that the "agent" I signed the band with is a compulsive liar who does not have the promised shows for us. When will I learn!!!!!
meanwhile, you keep on with the hanging in there thing!

Ha I enjoy reading your writing! Hope the gigs went well and you were flying above the city when performing. Hope you didn't have to play den mother to your band to much. Maybe you should carry a switch and swipe it across their fannies every once in a while. I am hanging in there. Keepin on! Power to the people!

Yeah, I was sad about Jyohn Hughes. As for the futility one feels when trying to do something more than being a worker drone, I felt it too today. My band is acting like three year olds. A is upset by b while c won't deal with our agent because he doesn't like her. The whole fucking alphabet of them are getting on my nerves. It is a bar blues band for fucks sake...Yet, usually when we hit the stand, I remember why I do it. Dick, the sax player I used to manage said that to him the music stand was the safest place in the world. An environment he operated in at his best, doing what he wanted to do, where all the petty shite of life couldn't touch him. The sad thing is that you have to come off stage at some point, and thats when the crap starts up again. We are playing a Cancer benefit in Visalia tomorrow, and then straight off to a brew pub in Fresno where we are gigging in the evening. We sre going to do a new song I wrote for the benefit called "Fight It" and despite all the silliness I at least know I will be happy between 3 and 4:30 and again between 8 and 11, the time I will be on stage. It is 2:21 in the morning and I am doing laundry. oh the glamour. Keep on with your project. At my lowest of ebbs, I always thing "At least it's something to do" Take care friend.

Hello sir,
I enjoyed watching your video. It makes me realize how much I love live music and how much I haven't seen enough live shows in the late. I am happy that you are keeping on. Keeps the soul alive and the surrounding ones too. Thanks for inspiration. My project I guess is coming along. I was on vacation and just got back. I am trying to get back in the swing of things. One of my friends who had started filming is going back to New Zealand soon, so it's a little bittersweet. A lot of things going on. I have to be honest, at times I feel like throwing everything in the gutter, thinking "why bother" because it's trying sometimes, and then other times I feel like I have to keep going on. I know, I must sound silly. I still want to have original music so, I have you in mind. I also would love to have sledgebrainerd and paryen to do something, but must ask. I am working out the kinks in getting there. It's a journey. Hopefully I don't croak then. I am sad about John Hughes. We were just talking about him at work before we found out. Kind of creepy, but nonetheless very sad. So much a part of my growing up. Am I running on again? Oh well. I guess it runs in my family. I will keep running along. Until next time friend! Be well and please keep rockin'! You must...for all of us. :)

Hello. I am doing ok, tons of gigs for the next few months. Could do without the 100f + weather we have had for a month now. My band has a vid up on youtube if you fancy a look. http://www.youtu be.com/watch?v=mlgC7cy206k
How are you doing? How is your project coming along?

Hi there. I am doing well but the surgery proved to be dramatic in that I had stones in my bile duct as well as my gallbladder. The tests didn't find the bile duct ones, but the surgeon decided to look for them anyway. If he hadn't of found them, I would not be here now. I am feeling better than in years. I am still a bit weak, but I am back to gigging on the 18th.
i would be interested in trying to come up with music for your show. That would be a project I do out of interest rather than to pay the bills. The band have just hooked up with an agent who can get us lucrative Casino gigs all oer California. THAT I am doing for the money, although I enjoy playing just about more than anything. Did I ever tell you that my university thesis was called 'Music - The Forgotten Sign System" and dealt with how music has in mho been neglected in dramatic theater compared to other sign systems such as lighting, set, costume, etc. I don't know why I am mentioning it now, but it just came to mind. Anyhow, I am interested in your project. Keep me informed.
I had my time working in shops. I hated it, but also it did seem easier than fighting to spend my time doing stuff I actually wanted to do. There was something comforting in a bad way about9-5 living and not having to think too much.
Anyhow, things are mostly good here, but I am waging a battle with our landlord which may not work out well. He is due here in a moment actually. I call him 'Smiley Dave', one of those guys who acts like an automobile salesman the whole time. (Actually, he is an automobile salesman.) All teeth and no substance.
Well, I am off to deal with him now as well as continueing my fight to be crowned the new King of Pop.
Take care and get creative and let me know

hey there! How's your recup going? Hope you are doing well. Been hanging in there myself. Some really low times, some good times. Just trying to keep my head above water I guess or learning how to swim underwater again. Been filming some stuff that I've written. Gonna film The Greeky to Micki thing that I wrote to. Working on making it a show or something. Might be looking for original music too- I am not at the editing process yet, but just throwing it out there to you. Wanna utilize friends, you know what I mean. Not sure if pay will be big, but at least it's activity in the arts. Right?
I think it's the only thing that's keeping me going. Been working so much as a shop girl, that's it's easy to just settle and succumb to a life of gift wrapping and cash register tape. That can't be all in life- at least not in my life. Well I hope to come back here and make a mix of some sort or something. Be well friend. I'll keep in touch! B

Hi. No word on my great nephew. I am going in to hospital for surgery on Wednesday. 5 days in hospital and six weeks at home. it is just gall bladder surgery but I am in agony right now and because of all my other surgeries I have to be cut open the old fashioned way. I am a bit scared although I have done this dance many times. I feel like an old bicycle wheel that is going to have one last patch to try and get a bit more life out of it...but there is always music, friendship and shit sci fi to keep us all going. You'll get through all this and I might get through as well. You take care friend
5/24/09 9:31pm
hi friend hope all is well with you and your family. Did they ever find your nephew? How is your health? I really hope everything is ok. I have been working and just puttering about. I don't know - I think I have ennui. Oh how boring, right? I feel real sad at times and then I feel nothing. Just been working most of the time. O whatever, I guess, hopefully it's just a spell and I will break free from it. take care friend, best B

Priscilla was my wifes sister and lived in San Diego. There is a memorial planned for next week, and we will go down there then. We had a sad couple of days but things seem more positive today. This coincides with a somewhat unexpected influx of funds. I feel an inappropraite spending spree coming on
4/15/09 11:38am
Oh dear- I am so sorry. I hope your wife gets better and your operations help you feel better. My condolences to you and your family. Was your sister in law in the US? I really hope that your nephew makes contact soon. I hope your music is helping you through. Strange and odd year indeed. I am sending good thoughts your way. Be well Sir.
4/14/09 11:29am
Hi friend. I am glad you are back around. If you saw the state of my living room right now you would realise we subscribe to the same magazine. I am so glad your dad got his surgery, and I wish we had of had the chance to see your piece in LA.
Things are not good here. My wife is really ill, I am facing double surgery (gallbladder and spleen) and saddest of all, my sister-in-law Priscilla died on Saturday. We are reeling at the moment. I also have a 19 year old nephew missing in Italy right now. It is a mess! Amidst all this, my band has a flurry of activity in the next month including two dates in Fresno that represent a step up for us. It is a strange old year so far.

Mister mister!!!! I am back in some form or another!
No show in LA- was too broke. We did two shows here - one in Harlem and then in Bushwick, Brooklyn. We rocked the house- I have to say. Our piece was 3-4 minutes long and we ended the show. We also boxed with whole raw chicken on our hands. It was called I am not an animal. The whole show was called BY-Co-Astal- (they separated the words in a weird way- right? Anywho- getting ready to work on something else.
My dad finally got his operation and he is home doing WELL!!!! I am so relieved! It really threw me off. I am still a slob at home- kind of throw things about and such. I think that's it for now. Thanks for the messages.
How are you doing? Hope all is grand, fantastic and healthy!
cheers friend!

Whats up? Are you doing that show yet? When does LA happen? I am busy getting gigs for the band right now, but other than that not much happens. Tomorrow I will go up to the Indian Res in the morning as it is a lovely ride and you can see Eagles now and then. A few weeks ago I saw a stork which is awesome, it's wingspan is amazingly beautiful, but I was pissed that he or she wasn't wearing a postman hat and carrying a baby in a sheet!

Sorry to hear you had to go the ER. The bit about watching kids theatre on morphine made me laugh. I am glad to hear everything went well and the show was well received. Also glad to hear that you are working on band stuff. Also glad to hear that you got to relax and veg! That's the best!
I will check out your stuff on Mr. S. Brainerds blog too.
Thanks for your thoughts, I return them to you a millions time fold.
I am finally cleaning up my act. I'm starting with the kitchen. :)
Cheers friend- be well!

well, i ended up in the ER on the opening night and attended night 2 full of morphine (which is actually the best way to see a teenage theatrical performance) but...the kids did great, people laughed at the piece I did (it was full of bad puns and pop culture bits) and booed and hissed the villain in the melodrama. I got some children's drama workshop work for the summer out of it which was cool. Also, there was one kid who is just a natural actor, it was exciting to see her develop as a performer and I hope I helped her a little. Some of the others showed promise too. I had the kids do everything, lights, sound, backstage, etc and although it got chaotic now and then, I think they all enjoyed it. We made a few hundred bucks profit for the community theater as well. This one, Lindsay, is much better than the other one. I am concentrating on band and writing now for a bit. I might put some of the show I wrote up on youtube at some point!
Glad you got to spend time with your folks and hope that your Dad gets his surgery soon. Let me know about the LA show. I am taking the afternoon off to watch bootleg DVDs, eat popcorn and generally veg!

Hey there hi there ho there. I am still hanging on the hangings on, especially the stalactites in the subway. Gross. Florida was cold. Dad operation postponed. Find out more news on Thurs. Time spent with my parents was good. We laughed, we ate and watched good bad movies together. I am listening to Matt Pond right now and want to cry. A theatre in LA was booked. I get more information tonight. I ate some Thai Lemon and Chili flavored cashews from Trader Joes and I am belching not so pretty.
Must memorize lines for show. Home still a pigsty.
How was the show? Hope you are swell!!
cheers! B

Hey! How did the show go? I am off to work right now, just wanted to touch base. Hope you are still not hospital bound? On a light note- I woke up with a huge zit on my cheek----I thought I finished going through puberty! Oh well- my home is still a pig sty and I don't care. :)))) I love being in denial!!! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Hi,
The show opens in 2 days, I am sick to the point I should be in hospital, one of my band members who was helping me with the music pulled out because her Mum broke her hip but I like these kids and we are going to have a show if it fucking kills me which is an option. I am just getting ready to go to the theater now, but have lots to talk about so I will write when I get back. In the meantime, I saw Our Town in 1998ish in New York in the park with John Goodman. thought you might have been there?

Hey there. what's up with the up up? Thanks for the message. Been keeping busy I guess, even though my apartment is a complete pigsty. I mean- wow! I literally just throw my clothes on the floor. It's actually laughable. I'll put the photo in my pics on my page. My old computer is still on my desk. I haven't finished transferring files, but at this point, who cares if it's done.
I'm going to Florida on Monday to see my Mom and Dad. Monday is THE day. My stomach will be in knots and since I hate flying, it will be the size of a walnut. I feel nervous writing about it. I don't want to jinx anything. I am just being superstitious I guess.
Your show is coming up soon right? I bet it will be great. You must be having a blast. Break a leg!
I'm doing a friend's show mid Feb. We have 5 shows, so I am happy about that. It's called For Pete's Sake and he wrote it. It's about a certain time in his life and how it has affected him today. If you want to read something about it: http://www.bytheriverblo g.com/2008/12/harry_and_pete.html
other than that, I've been trying to be good. I even decided to talk to the friend who I had a falling out with last April. Little steps. I just saw a real interesting stage version of Our Town, which was good, but I forgot how depressing the end was. I felt like walking in traffic. I guess that's what triggered my questions of mortality, cherishing "the now" and trying to let bygones be bygones. I hate to throw in the cliche, but life IS too short. Don't worry, I didn't "drink the kool aid". I drank the Chocolate milk.:)
Hope all is swell. Will try to touch base before I fly *urgh* . ps- no word yet on the bi-coastal show. We get confirmation of all the dates by Feb 1.
ciao!

I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. Please know I am thinking of you and hoping he gets through ok.
Enjoying working with the kids a lot. These guys come without pushy rich parents which I like. I finished writing the short piece of mine we are doing yesterday. They already had the first two scenes and were keen to find out what happened. It is just a bit of hokum but they really liked how it turned out, and I have to say that made me feel really good. Coming with no experience or expectations of the theater has it's advantages I think. These kids have a wonder and fascination for what we can achieve on stage that restores my faith in the old "suspension of disbelief" thing. We open on the 29th and I am already feeling sad about the end of the run a week later. My excursions into theater are limited these days, but I am unexpectedly really enjoying this one.
If your project did hit LA could you let me know in case we could come and see it? I've been planning to meet up with Sledgy on one of my next trips to La La land and that could be the time.
We are ok, didn't get hurt in the RTA but it was a strange experience. A tire blew and we spun off the road towards an orange grove. We limped to a gas station a short way away and it was almost scarier than the crash itself, guys staring in our truck to see what we had, and the guy in the store telling us that we had about an hour window before someone tried to rob us. It was a bit like being in a basly acted sequel to "From Dusk To Dawn" and God knows there have been enough of them!

How is the show going? You having a good time with the kids?
I am collaborating on something that might be put up in NY and LA around March. Not sure yet about LA. I'd just rather just do it in NY, but we'll see.
I hate flying.
Just been working and trying to organize my home, getting rid of shit and stuff like that.
My dad went into the hospital last night. I am sad. He will need heart surgery. I think things will be ok. I am crossing every part of my body.
Oh well, that's all for me right now.

Bonjour! Almost finished the short play I am writing for Kids to perform. Just as well as we open three weeks yesterday!
We had a car crash the other day, scary at the time, but like Gloria gaynor, we survived.
What's happnin' in Beel world?

The ghost show will be filmed, and I will let you hear the (as yet unwritten) songs before that. Stayed in this noo years eve, going out now for breakfast up at the local Indian res then home to old movies, some writing and a lot. Not for a while though, I too have sugar rush

Happy New Year!!! Cheers to 2009-2010. Hope you had a good one. I did. It was nice and relaxing. I ate too much chocolate cake though. I totally had a sugar crash.
More power to you for staying off the sauce. If it means that you will live a healthier life, so be it. Plus we need you around to write more lovely stories! Yes more stories. I will be sure to read your blog today! I have the day off--YAY!!!! I will totally send you my fringe stuff. I performed Greeky to Miki in my class about 2 weeks ago. I had a freakin brilliant time. I added more to it while performing. Hopefully you will see it one day!! Crossing fingers!
A ghost musical sounds fantastic! It just sounds like alot of fun. Let me know if you tape it, I would love to see it or even hear the original music!
Once again- Happy New Year!!!!
ps- did you see Dick Clark on TV? I was just a bit frightened. Oh Dick....He's holding on with all his might.

12/30/08 6:37pm
Hiya. Maybe you can find a drum teacher who isn't into real estate? The whole wagon thing is pretty serious for me, my not very good health anyway would be shot to hell by any full time return to fun substances and drinks. I have only fallen off a couple of times in 15 years and never for more than a day or so, but my first day of being good again, Saturday, was pretty fraught. We travelled back early from Ventura, and although I planned to rest in the day, it never really happened. When I went to the party to jam in the evening, a dickwad drunk racist got on my back about driving all immigrants into the sea, how Spaniards are educated Mexicans and how the English are a bunch of faggots. I tolerated this drivel for a while, but have you ever been in the scenario where the objectionable drunk insults and offends you on the one hand while thinking you are their best friend and constantly following you around on the other? That was my fate, and the only way out was to come home before 9, the earliest I have been home from a party since my age hit double digits! There was a big temptation on my part to play hide the contents of the tequila bottle but I didn't, and I seem to be back to my fluffy world of fruit juice and diet soda! (Yes, I know that's bad for me too!)
I wasn't a mad keen Pinter fan, but 'The Birthday Party' and 'The Servent' are very good. Joseph Lossey made a movie of 'The Servant' with Dirk Bogarde and (I think) James Fox which is excellent. I never saw Pinter on stage as an actor, but I have seen Krapp's Last Tape as part of a Beckett festival some time back. I think that the British actor Billie Whitelaw was in it, She was great as I recall, and comedy actor Warren Mitchell was in Godot.
I am not welcome at my local community theater anymore, nor would I want to go. There is one guy who would want to be involved in some kind of reading for Pin ter there, but I doubt it will happen. Back in the late fifties, this theater was actually cutting edge for it's status and location, they even performed some Beckett at a theater fest in 1959. These days it is Seussical the Musical and please check your creativity in at the door. I am directing some teenagers in a trifle at The Lindsay Theater, 15 miles away from here. The kids are so enthusiastic, I couldn't turn it down. We will be doing a short pre-show, a musical ghost story written by me. We start rehearsal on Monday and I have to finish writing my piece (not to mention four or five songs to go in it). These kids have had little or no exposure to Theater other than the enthusiasm of a local English teacher who also runs this theater. He is a whizz at Grant writing so the place has some useful lighting and sound equipment. The kids are up for this, and I will enjoy it I know. A month to rehearse and 4 performances is about the right amount of time for me. I will be out gigging with a changed and expanded band again by late February.I would love to read the piece you submit to the NY Fringe Fest. I will fin ally get another book out in 2009, I have two things on the go
Hope you have a festive New Year and that 2009 turns out to be one to remember for all the right reasons. Have a great year my friend.

Oh!!!! The damn wagon. Hope you are ok. Everything alright? I think my liver is screaming for me to give it a break for awhile. I will try to comply. Got any interesting plans for New Years? What's on the music menu? My drum teacher is a real estate agent now...oh well...I guess I am on drumming hiatus.
Harold Pinter....RIP. :( Ever see or read any of his stuff. I didn't realize that he was still acting. One of last things was Beckett's Krapps Last Tape, which I have never read. Are you familar with this piece? Will you be doing a reading at your local theatre? Well there I go again...blah, blah, blah.... I think I am going to submit my writing to the NY Fringe festival for 2009. Oh what the right?! Happy New Year Friend!! Be well!! B

Christmas was good, and featured an unexpected temporary return to booze which was both scary and nice. On the wagon again, back in Bumfuck, CA and getting ready to jam the night away at my bass players party. PLUS, I recorded three Bogart movies on TCM Christmas night so Sunday will be a black and white vision of happiness.

Happy Crimbo and a kickoutthejamstastic New Year!
12/24/08 7:56pm
I download all the Mackey shows as I don't have FX on my cable roster, and I hadn't got round to watching it yet (Too many 'Sarah Jane mysteries' from the UK to get through) but some bastard did a verbal spoiler so I kind of know. I would have rather he was blasted to death by a swat team really. I knew a kind of Vic M in London, he was a cop on the take who had a reel to reel video recorder at home about two years before VCR's were commercially available. Nice guy though
12/6/08 7:16am
Leaving my band maybe, but not playing. I have been asked to join an alt. country band who work a lot. Not exactly my music, but they are good at what they do and the money is very good at what it does. It can go a long way towards helping me pay legal fees so that I can get my residency problems sorted out. can also work on my own music and hopefully get a writing project going.
As for MTC, I have a backlog of mixes I want to do. I am doing a Henry VIII banquet one for the contest but I am nowhere near finishing it yet. Anyway, like I said before, it is good to have you back.

Hello!!!! How ya doin? No more band for you in the new year? Working on solo stuff or more writing?? Things are cool on this end. Colder here--a little bit of icey rain today, but not really that cold. Ate enough turkey for the year- I think, but I could always go for thirds. :) I feel like I haven't been on the site for awhile. Need to catch up and get some downloads out.
Need to do a lot of things....

Just got back from a coastal trip myself. Drove all night so I am a bit spaced right now. It is very good to hear from you. I am a bit under the weather but that seems to be the way of it these days. A spate of Christmas gigs are coming in. I am leaving my band once they are done, but I need the money. I am glad you are going to get down to writing, that is what I need to do too. I did my first blog entry in about seventy years last week, but that is hardly going to be pulling in the Booker prize now is it! I imagine you will be glued to the telly tonight to see what happens to Vic M. I am hoping he gets away with everything but I suspect that it will all end bloodily.
11/25/08 8:48am
Hey Hi Hello!!!! I was in Florida visiting my mom and dad. They are both doing well! My computer was in repair for a week. I was limited to just checking my emails on a laptop from my old job. I have a new part time job as a shop girl. So far I love it. I am reorganizing my home office- getting rid of crap and making a space for me to start writing again!
I am glad to hear about the gigs. What else is going on? How are you feeling? Hope the weather is good, its getting chilly here. I think I still have the flu--it comes and goes, you know. Okey doke! Thank you for the notes!
Be well!

Hope nothing else shit has happened. Things seem to be turning a corner for me, I seem to be getting offered music work from all sides, though I don't feel up to doing tons and tons. Take care
11/11/08 8:28pm
Bloody hell. I am sorry about your friend, glad that your Dad is back home. A heart blockage was part of my problem when I was in hospital a year back. I had angioplasty and am doing much better as a result. As for your job, I have to ask, was any head kicking involved?
I am still not feeling too great, and am having the usual tests, X rays, faith healers etc. I am still playing, I have a gig tonight, although I just learned that my other guitarist is "unavailable" for three weeks. Ah well. Enjoy your new found freedom!

Well HELLO!!!!!!
Had a interesting 2 weeks....In a nutshell,
A friend died.
My Dad went into the hospital last week- they thought it was a heart-attack- but he had a blockage of the heart. He is out of the hospital now and back home with my Mom.:)
I got sick again- then got better- then got sick, now getting better.
I parted ways with my company yesterday- so I don't have a job right now, but I got to say, I feel freaking great!!!
I feel like I shed a heavy itchy wool coat.
Thank you for the messages! Hope your wrist has recovered and you are jamming!!

How are you? Stayed in a haunted inn last night after a gig. The only thing that came back to haunt me though was last night's tri-tip sandwich!
10/30/08 11:52am
There was this Indian girl at my school whose name was Priti Buch (pronounced Pretty Butch) On the first day of school my friend was standing next to her, and when a teacher asked "Are you pretty butch?" he said in a deep voice "No, but I am!" Priti was pretty cool too as it happens, very quiet, but a demon at racket ball.
10/28/08 7:03am
well then you better damn well take care of yourself or your royal ass will be kicked Brooklyn style!
Tonight ,I had a real nice cab driver that was playing real cool Indian music. His name was Butt Mohammed. No lie. I was giggling to myself. He was very cool though. :)

I wasn't tripped, I wasn't kicked in the head, but I feel like a crap taco right now. My weeks are always fun and educational, hope yours are too!
10/27/08 12:00pm
read about your fall! Hope no one tripped you up and tried to kick you in the head! I hope you have a fun AND educational week! :)
10/27/08 10:57am
Glad you are feeling better. as for your co-worker, my advice is to trip them up first and then as they fall the head will be that much more accessible for kicking!
10/24/08 10:28am
Hey there, Thanks I do feel better. I still have a tickly cough that really only kicks in at night when I am trying to sleep. Other than that-- I really feel like kicking someone I work with in the head.
10/24/08 9:05am
How the heck are you? Feeling better I hope?
10/24/08 2:21am
I am feeling a little better, same old story, waiting for blood test results to find out what happens next. I am doing ok though. I just got a wednesday night residency that I view as 4 paid bills a month, so that is good! Feel better
10/22/08 9:44am
Ohh I am still sick, but I am sooo happy to hear to your music. Thank you!!
How are you doing?

Excellent and thank you! I hope you walk away with some good cash!
10/17/08 8:27am
http://www.s endspace.com/file/hci46i Hope you like this one as well. Sold a few 4 track EPs at a gig last night. I am also buying up cheap used copies of my first book from Amazon and selling signed copies at gigs. I seem to be a right little capitalist these days. I will send you the other 2 EP tracks tomorrow.
10/16/08 11:36pm
Yahoo-- great. Listening to it now- then i have to go out- will chat later
Cheers!

What's most important is that you are generous with your rabies.
Hung out locally over the weekend. I think I am getting a cold, but I feel a change coming on in my life-----can't explain.

Coyotes got rabies from me! No, didn't get home till Sunday, missed out on bucks I needed, and we have a concert launch of my CD EP tomorrow and I still have three tracks to finish, the art work to do, and I am late for a guitar lesson with a fifteen year old who thinks she is the next Whitney. But...I did give a coyote pack rabies so life is good. get into any fun trouble this weekend?
10/14/08 2:33pm
So did you make the gig? Did you get rabies from any coyotes?
10/14/08 10:36am
Ha! Fuckin' battery!! I hope you make it home to your gig.
Seedy motel, brokedown truck Betsy, Bullhead City,- now all you need is Robert Blake.

10/11/08 7:13am
Actually, I like the whole staying in the bad part of town aspect to all this, and despite the disaster that might be just round the corner, I am kind of ernjoying the adventure!
10/10/08 10:36pm
No snakes as yet, just dickheads. I should be home now but the truck broke down in the Mojave desert. We paid the AAA tow truck guy off the books to fix the problem and as soon as he left us in the aptly named Bullhead City, AZ our battery went dead and the weekend turned to post Vindaloo Poo. I am writing this from a hooker hotel in the aforementioned Bullshit city and have no idea if the truck (betsy to her friends) will get me home tomorrow. I am due to play a decent gig tomorrow night, one of the last with my current band, and I hope I get back in time. I would french kiss a rattlesnake at this moment just to welcome the change in pace.
Aaaaargh

But not quite as happy as Captain Ecstactic of the planet Ecstaica during interplanetary Ecstacy month
10/7/08 11:51pm
Laughlin Nevada is like Las vegas without the Las or the Vegas but they have 24 hour food, the rooms are less than 20 bucks a night and its not Porterville so I am happier than Captain happy from Happyland during Intercontinental Happy week.
10/7/08 7:59am
Found the modem, ate tons of food, wallowed in the Ventura rain. (No rain toi speak of in these herte parts) off to nevada now. As well as the obvious I will be messing about on teh Colorado river a bit. I will tell you my sea anecdotes when I get to where I'm going. next week I have to go see the immigration people and it might be bad news but this week we play! I like whales
10/6/08 12:37pm
Did you find your modem? Eat delicious food?
You gonna play the slots and gamble?
I went away for a bit, went whale watching- amazing- felt like crying- froze my ass off and then lost my seat on the boat to two smoochy German tourists. Almost bust my head open in the bathroom while trying to keep my balance. The water was very choppy! I thought we were going to turn over.
For one second I thought I could puke and then got over it.
Ate enough clams to get my mercury fill for the year.

Back in Ventura on the trail of the modem. This involves going to various restraunts and eating a lot.
Meanwhile, I am going to have a short vacation in Laughlin next week, a low rent Vegas on the Colarado River. Fun fun fun

Went to a friend's Oktoberfest party Friday--vegged out all weekend. It felt nice. You made me laugh with the bit about rookie, rocky, Hope you get your thing back. Have fun recording.
Vic Mackey!!! I saw that he was in that--he will always be a toughie. It's funny how he used to play The Commish.- a mushy police commissioner to The Shield.

Herllooooo. We played an open air gig on Friday and were on the front page of the local paper on Saturday. Go to www.recorderonline.com and put 'the stepsons' intop the site search engine. The article is shite of course. It said I introduced a number as a 'rookie' acoustic song. I wracked my brains trying to work out what the writer meant, trhen it came to me. For rookie, read 'rocky'!
Saturday Sunday I was in Camarillo, and dickhead that I am I left my wireless modem in a sushi bar in Vrentura, so I am having to use a fdriends computer to check my messages. I am going back down tomorrow to do some recording at a different studio and I will pick it up then.
Did you work this weekend or were you able to have fun? I saw Eagle Eye but it threw me. Vic Mackie as an honourable politician? I don't think so!

Hello there! What's shakin'? Did you play the weekend?
9/30/08 6:56am
I plan to get hold of a copy. I am starting up a cold reading group round here for those folk who don't want to appear in a string of Mormon musicals. This sounds like the kind of stuff we are looking for. We plan to cover non hoochie hidey holes too, but you gotta cover all the bases.
9/25/08 5:47pm
AHHHHHH!!!!! Dead bunnies in the vagina!!!!! What a freakin good story! Thank you --gosh sometimes you really can't make shit up! Not that's it's a coincidence, but it kind of is, (no, no shoving of dead animals in the coochie) I was reading the play August: Osage County and there is a part where the daughters are talking about their mother hiding a bottle of pills in her cooch!
It is fuckin great writing. I recommend it highly-- I think you will like it.

Pants holding up so far but it is only noon here in sunny CA! Brilliant idea about the book, there does indeed need to be an MTC book
9/24/08 11:59am
Oh so dramatic and fabulous!
Wow, I went on a tangent last post huh? I think I am back to normal. I was so exhausted and misplaced. I felt like Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh.
How are your pants holding up? hee hee
I like this contest, so many fun mixes! I think there needs to be a Mixtapecollective book.

That massage therapist line reminded me of a thesb party I was at a millenia ago when a very pretentious and dangerously drunk drama queen declared in a very wobbly manner that "A young actress must remain at her best at all times" before throwing up and passing out all in one less than graceful movement!
9/23/08 6:14pm
Thanks for the Pow Wow update. Very cool! How can you help but NOT fall asleep under a tree. It's delicious! You probably can find Branston on line, no?
Business trip was a business trip, what can I say. Went to Atlanta. Woke up extra early both Sat/Sun to attend meetings. I really wore me out, cuz we were in the hotel conference rooms all day long, and then they had a dinner for us, which was also in the hotel and they had a casino put in for everyone to chill out. Of course- fake money, raffle tickets and prizes. I played Texas hold-em all nite with co-workers, missed dinner and didn't win any prizes. But I was kicking ass in hold-em. I was a fake millionaire. I should have just thrown myself down the stairs at that point. So being that a couple of us missed dinner, we went to the restaurant in the hotel and ate and drank some more. The highlight of my nite was Slim Charles from the Wire was in the place. His real name is Anwan Glover. He was very very nice. He told us that he was going to play Snoop Dogg in a bio on him. Then typical, when douches get drunk fashion, one of the "attendees" says to him, "SO--Is Snoop Dogg's real last name DOGG or what??" I was thinking - "Gee, Great time to be a cracker...." He was totally cool and just answered him normally- I heard him say Calvin.. and then I zoned out on him because he was soooo tall. I just got caught up in his height and he has a great raspy voice. I was mentally done when one of my other coworkers was pushing a free porn site on them saying, "All you have to do is type in black women and...." Went to bed , woke up at 6 to finish the meeting the next day. Some people were a silent mess- you could just look at them and know they were hurting. THAT'S when I should have thrown myself down the stairs, but alas they were carpeted, so I would have just gotten rug burns and static electricity zaps. One of my favorite quotes I heard was from one of the sales managers when he was sauced, "If I wasn't in sales, I would totally be a massage therapist right now". Barf.
Oh yeah, my jeans almost fell down at the Pow Wow due to lack of a belt so my Indian name was almost "Dances With Underpants"
9/22/08 2:38pm
The Pow Wow was brilliant. It was up in the mountains in the local reservation. There were all these instructions for outsiders like not calling the Indian dress "costumes" but regalia, standing when the drum dances were on, stuff like that. The little kids looked so great in their cost... whoops, regalia, and it was so peaceful and moving. I bought a ton of drums and flutes and stuff, plus several books on the history of the Yakut, the local tribe. A very sad history it is too. As for the Indian tacos, they were like ordinary tacos except that the meat and salad stuff was on this huge Indian fried bread which must have taken yewars off my life but which was delicious. We took lawn chairs and fell asleep under a tree just like old folk are supposed to do at social functions.
Deep fried Mars Bars are a Scottish rather than English thing, but I did have one once. I like banana fritters.
Anyway, hope the biz trip has not been too awful and that the lip balm has helped keep you going.

Apparently you sit up in bleachers and watch native american dancing, drumming, etc etc. A member of my band, Ben, is involved with the tribal council and I think he is doing something. I am really looking forward to it.
Ploughmans? Branston Pickle? Make me homesick why don't you! Can't get Branston's round here, and believe me I have looked. I so like the sound of a stoner chip shop. There is an English pub in Visalia that I haven't tried yet. Hope the business trip is not too horrible. I will report on the PowWow later

Pow WOW! I never knew that they happened---well not here in NY at least. If they do happen here- I haven't seen one. Do you dance there? get to wear a headdress or something? Tacos! I just had Ploughman's with Stilton. They forgot the branston pickle and pickled onions. We have a chip shop in the neighborhood and I always see the cooks smoking doobies outside. Other than forgetting a few things, the food is good and they are pretty friendly.
Every once in a blue moon I will order the deep fried mars bar. Is that popular in England? Are you familiar with Derek Acorah/ Most Haunted? You must... anyway, my friends and I have been imitating him almost everyday.
especially from this episode:

Apologies if you are a fan--- :#
Ah shit I need to pack. Have a great POW WOW! Hope the tacos are deliciouso!! My native american name would be something like, Big Waster of Time who Sits by Light Box.

I am going to my first Pow Wow tomorrow. Well, it is not mine, it is the Tule Tribe's, but you know what I mean. I am told Native American tacos are good. I will report!

HA- that's funny. I think the autumn has made me ravenous. I could eat a whole loaf of bread and drink a bottle of wine and then a bag of chips, cheese, french fries, hot wings, kimchee, bratwurst, more pasta, cake, vanilla shake, root beer, cherries, Pringles, cheeseburger, corn, and a caesar salad.
I have to wake up at 4am - maybe I will just stay awake until then. Ahhh whatever...

If I had a quarter for every time I have had cold pasta for breakfast i would probably have $28.75 Touring I loved (except for the couple of years I didn't because I was burnt out) but business trips I never liked. When I was little and I had to go to the dentist, my Dad would always get me a bribe to get me through it. I have continued the tradition to this day and whenever I have to do something I don't like (like invasive medical tests, lots of those at the moment) I buy myself a treat afterwards. A big treat, usually musical or food related! Hang in there

Hey thank you for the story. Always very good to read. I feel like caca poo poo lately. I have to go on a business trip and don't want to go. I am eating cold pasta for breakfast.

Story time: Geno Washington was on the roster of Motown in the early 60s, I think he had a minor hit or two, then moved to the UK where his Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band played R&B all nighters, covering the soul hits of the day. He was immortalised in the Dexy's Midnight Runners song 'Geno'. Well, by the 80s, he still haqd a version of the Ram Jam Band on the road, playing the London club and pub circuit. My sister had seen him in the 60s glory days and called me to see if I fancied catching his show. I had been away with a children's theater company for ages and hadn't seen her much, so I agreed.
My sister was going through a bad divorce at the time and it didn't take much to encourage her to drink. We were both pretty full of gin and tonic by the time Geno finished his set. As the band loped off the stage, Janice said that she wanted to go backstage to say hello, and promptly headed that direction. I thought I should follow her so I did. We found ourselves in Geno's dressing room, a cramped affair made all the smaller by our entry and Geno's at6tempt at concealing the line(s) of coke he was about to snort. Janice stumbled over to him and said that she used to see him a lot in the sixties. He lied and said he remembered her. Then she remembered me, and said, "This is my little bruvver, he is a mooshishan too!" At that Geno extended his hand. She went on, "He sings about Penguins to five year olds in the theater~? At that the hand was withdrawn again. And that would be that, except...
Two hours later, we are locked in at the pub, and Geno, Janice and some of his band sit in front of me joining in with vocals and hand actions as I play a borrowed guitar and sing..."Bedtime for Mr Penguin, Nighty Night, It's all here in black and white, Just enough time for a sleepy wish, For lot's of ice and some tasty fish!"

I wrote Roddy Mcdowell - it was Malcom - I always get their names mixed up. DOH!!
9/15/08 8:10am
More gigs! Woo Hoo! My weekend consisted of some writing, some collaboration with friends on directing some pieces, playing with my niece and nephew, and just bumming around at home. I too have watched some really good shite tv this weekend. My favorite was Doomsday- I know I can kiss those brain cells good-bye. It was bad, had potential, but I think the movie was confused. It was like doomed futuristic one minute and then very much like Road Warrior and then it turned medievil and then went back to Road Warrior and then turned doomed futuristic again. It kind of left it open for a sequel- I think. Roddy McDowell and Bob Hoskins were in it, among some other recognizable faces. Then I watched Fido- zombie/pet film which was cute and funny. Then I watched the new HBO show True Blood- I think I like it- I'm getting into it slowly. Then I watched Entourage- I don't know what it is, but all the characters this season are real annoying.
I got the new Motorhead album, just listening to it, not sure yet how I feel about it yet. Blah blah blah- It was hot today. I guess that cool weather was like "I'm outta hear!" more blah blah blah...there are alot of new mixes, aye...hard to keep up with them all. My brain hurts.

How's the weekend going? Had a good gig last night. Acoustic non blues murder ballad type things. Very different to what I have been doing, but pretty satisfying. I have eating and watching shite movies pencilled in for Sunday. What's going on in Beel city?
9/13/08 11:38pm
Oh dear yes Miz. Kidman did have a wood like appearance. I even think they greased up the lens ala Star Trek style when it was on her. Luckily she got botoxed up, cuz if you show emotion then they know you are not one of them...but she did sweat, although we know someone spritzed her in the face. I just know that if I was running around in that turtleneck like she was, I would have huge pit stains...especially in a grey turtleneck! In a weird way, I still like her. Did you see Fur- the Diane Arbus bio-fantasy. I liked it.
I heard good things about Blue Room.

Oh, by the way, I had a pet budgie when I was little called Joey who used to push a ping pong ball along the floor with his beak and into my hand. He also used to like perching on my hand and looking in the mirror. He was alright.
9/9/08 10:32pm
I am so sorry but Nicole Kidman is so wooden in that movie that her stunt person must have been a tree. I saw her on the West End stage in London in 'The Blue Room' though and she was pretty good. She played opposite Ian Glenn who was great.
9/9/08 10:27pm
Hey, guess what movie is on that I am about to waste 2 hours of my life on?
9/9/08 6:16pm
the gigs were pretty good. Yeah, we had to get a new drummer. Our last one is facing jail time after his last gig with us. A long story. We have got gigs up till late October, then I am thinking of maybe looking for another band. Not sure about that yet.
It is still oppressively hot here, and likely to be that way for a couple of weeks yet. i yearn for a climate where you have to treasure the last few days of summer. Enjoy

Hey there! Three nights!!! Glad to hear that news!! Keep rockin the house!
Does that mean you will have lots of gigs this fall/winter?
Did you replace a band member? was it the drummer?
I had a great weekend. Celebrated my gramma's birthday. My family has about 4 dogs, so it was nice to play with them all at the same time. And one parakeet appropriately named Pecky. Little guy has been known to break skin. It's still sweet though. In the morning it sings and then says, Hello Pecky! Other than that I am trying to enjoy the truly last days of warmish weather. I wanted to work on a mix too, just thinking of a theme for myself.
Das it!!

How was the weekend? Mine was busy. The band had three nights up at the local indian Casino, four hours a night. I like playing there though as we get to be loud and I still like to do that. On Friday night, there were some girls dancing round their purses, even when when were playing murder ballads and stuff. (Hey Joe, Stagger Lee, etc) More recording this week, then another weekend of gigging, so I am tired but having fun.
I just watched 'Invasion' on HBO. one of those "two hours of my life I can never get back" deals I am afraid. Its 3:40 now and I am wide awake, so I might start another mixtape. TaTa for now

So it sounds like you had a great day!! I had banana frozen yogurt on Sunday--coincidence??? hhhhhmmmm I think not. :) Saw Tropic Thunder and I have to say, although I am not a big Stiller fan, I sat through the whole film with a stupid grin on my face. how's the gig?
9/2/08 7:35am
Thank you friend. I am having a great day. Not that my happiness relies on consumer goods entirely, but I did get an amazing pressie, Pro Tools, which turns my computer into a studio. I am full of banana icecream, we are about to go to a jam in a dodgy bar and then on to my fave Mexican diner. Happy happy happy!

It's just too easy to have a miserable birthday. Make it hard on yourself and have a fabulous day! Hope that doesn't sound too cheesy.
I am sure your dad is right by your side.
I have a lot of family members that I don't talk to--not really a falling out, we just lost contact and there has been no attempt on either part to reconnect. It happens I guess.....
It's a gorgeous day and I will raise a beer or a pop in honor of your b-day!
Well then Mr. Miserable Bastard, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! You know I am just kidding about the bastard stuff. Hope you are having a fantasticalwonderfulmentjoyousridiculous day!!!

Birthday is on Sunday, I was due to go to the Long Beach blues fest this weekend, but that has fallen through. I hope to maybe get out of town for 24 hours at least but it kind of feels like festivities have been cancelled right now. I am not in touch with any of my family back home and I know this sounds odd, but I am dreading not being able to talk to my Dad on my birthday. Things like birthdays bring into focus what you have lost as well as what you have. Miserable bastard aren't I. Actually, I will cheer up as soon as I get out of P'ville 2morrow, and end up having fun. I want to see a band but to see anything decent means a 175 mile trip to LA. We'll find something. Meanwhile, enjoy the long weekend. I am playing on Monday, so that will be fun.
8/30/08 1:09am
I just watched a demonstration on youtube---that is freakin hilarious!! when's yer birthday?
I'm glad you like the mix. My music on itunes was shuffling around and Sonic Reducer came on and I was like "Oh my god, I totally forgot I had Dead Boys on here!" I am happy about the long weekend!!!! Jam on!

Fab gear and groovy contest entry. It made me smile on a very non smiley day. You also made me think of The Dead Boys for the first time in an age. Some mixtapes do take over till they are done, don't they but I am glad you did this one. Meanwhile, my descent into my third childhood continues. I just got an early birthday pressie, 'Guitar Hero: Air Guitar" and the air round here is filled with 'Smoke on The Water". Nice!
8/28/08 9:39pm
I think I've experienced Chimichunga's revenge! I was happy to see some stories!! I am gonna look into that toe thing--I wonder who got it and if they still have it. Kind of gross. I knew a guy who lost the tip of his pinky because he stuck it in between the spokes in the active wheel of an exercise bike. When it got chopped off, their cat name Kitten ran after it and ate it.
Sorry to hear that the sound guy is a dung beetle head- that's what it was right.
I am so happy it's Friday it hurts. I have been itching for this day for days!
I am trying to write out my mix first so that I can just cut and paste. I think it might work. Now off to get sushi with some pals!! Be well!!

The recording is going well, but the engineer is a poobrained dung beetle. I keep saying that I want an old time natural reverb laden bluesy sound on the acoustic songs (he says "thats so old fashioned) and a Black keys/White Stripes attack on some of the amplified stuff. (He says those bands are shit and make bad records. I say "Who is paying for the bloody session!") That song is a story song. Little Willie John was an R&B singer in the fifties. He recorded the original version of 'Fever', 'Need Your Love So Bad' and lots of others. James brown was his support singer for a couple of years, and in the mid fifties he was big news, but the pressure/loneliness of fame got to him and he started drinking heavily, getting into a bar fight in 1964 that led to a manslaughter charge. In 1968, just as 'Need Your Love So Bad' was covered by Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac in the UK and got to no.1, he died in prison. The official verdict was that he had a heart attack, despite reports of ligature marks round his neck, a possible indication that he hung himself or somebody hanged him. Anyway, there is something about his story that really got to me. I had heard some of his recordings because of the Peter Green connection, but a few weeks ago, I found a web site where some guy has uploaded his huge old 78 record collection as mp3s and I heard a lot more of his stuff. You can hear his phrasing technique in a lot of singers who came just after him (including James Brown) but I haven't heard any before him who sing like that. He also had this huge chip on his shoulder about his height which could not have been helped by the name by which he was known. Anyhow, his story interested me and I wrote a Black keysish little ditty which will hopefully be on my CD which I am tentatively calling "Chimichunga's Revenge" although that might change!

In the mid Seventies, I went to a guitar clinic held by Robert Fripp. I paid 30 pounds, at that time a lot, and turned up expecting some kind of souped up guitar lesson. What we got was a lecture on backwards tape and a brief history of Wimbourne Dorset. He did chat to the thirty or so of us at the end and seemed a quiet but nice guy. I saw Crimson around that time (Red was the latest album) when they were a three piece, Fripp, Bruford and Jon Whetton, and he stood onstage then, but just a year later he played in the band backing Peter Gabriel on tour, and he hid behind the curtain at that one, and most of the time since as far as I know. He is (at least was) married to Toyah Wilcox, a not very good New wave singer from the late 70s. She came from my area of North London and before she hooked up with Fripp she tried to buy one of the local movie theaters (Hendon odeon I think) to turn it into a home for her. The only other thing I have to say about her is that she once had to have a toe removed in a surgical procedure and she offered it as a prize in a fan club competition. I bring you the news nobody else gives a shit about!

Rezillos, Revillos. Perfect --sometimes I have dsylexia, so it works for me!!! :)
8/21/08 6:15pm
The Rezillos also recorded as the Revillos and they were great!
8/21/08 4:25pm
How was the recording!! It sounds like a lot of fun. All those buttons and switches and levers and doodads and microphones and headphones and stuffs.
Is the song a story?
So Fripp has always been like that? I saw them about 8 years ago and never noticed Fripp hiding. Then again, I guess it depends on how the place is set up. I believe the audience looked down at them, so he couldn't really hide. Do you know if he is a germaphobe? At another point, a slightly inebriated girl walked up to the stage and stood right below Belew as he sung Walking on Air. He had this look of "uhhh, wtf?" She was just looking up at him dreamily all by her lonesome. It was funny and sweet too.
The contest is a tough one! I need to hustle my bustle if I want to enter at a decent time.

Gig was good. There were actually a few people listening. I am recording tonight, so I am up for that. Tonight it is a jolly number called 'The Death Of Little Willie John'.
The Crimson show sounds great. Fripp has been like that for years. I saw Crimson in the 80s, and my friend said he tended to play behind the curtains on the left, so we got second row right aisle seats so we could see him, and of course the bugger chose that night to sit on the right behind the curtain. I saw the League Of Crafty Guitarists which was a little up its own bottom but good too in its way. Glad you enjoyed it. Adrian Belew. Thats the geezer. I find his personality slightly overpowering but I also like those squeally noises his strat makes.
You were more coherent than a very coherent person.

KC was freak fuckin great!! No Bruford- Gavin Harrison and Pat Mastelotto were drums who were pretty amazing. Fripp sat behind this large black audio box like thing and a lot of people could not see him. Luckily I could see him from where I was sitting on the side. He also did not look at the audience once, but he did come out before the show and was playing around with the preshow music which was very Eno-ish and ambient. People were calling out Mr. Fripp- but he ignored them. They did play Red and Belew was great and goofing around and just having fun. I love Tony Levin! I could watch him for hours. He was taking photographs every once in a while. No cameras or picture taking was allowed. They had security watching everyone- just in case some one took out a cell phone. There was also an announcement that we should pretty much narc anyone talking on the phone. They did three encores. The show was tight and the highlight of the "week". Oh and Fripp stood on the opposite side of the stage while people were clapping. He just clapped with the audience for the rest of the band. He then turned around and walked off. After the last song- Belew looked over to clap back at Fripp, but he was already gone. Belew just giggled to himself.
I have been working non-stop- so I am half wired and half pooped. Hope what I wrote made sense and is not just one long continuous sentence!
What's shakin with you? How was the gig?

Lucky old you. I have been a fan of Crimson/Fripp for many a moon. If they do a number that is all dense guitars and pretty much nothing else called 'red' give a cheer from me as that is a favorite of mine. I would like to know what the lineup is. I would guess Fripp, Tony Levin, Bill Bruford and the bloke from Talking Heads/Zappa who did .Elephant; and whose name I can;t remember right now. Have fun. I am travelling to Oxnard to see my immigration attorny this weekend, and then back for a gig, mercifully in an air conditioned hall, I am just listening to old Black Keys, tortoise and Richard Thompson - Toodle Pip from the original 21stCentury Schizoid man!

Got to love those marathons on TV. I haven't watched the Two Coreys. i catch snippets of it on Talk Soup, which I really like. I would be glad that is was Friday but I work all weekend. Oh well. Alan Thicke look familiar?
so anything interesting to listen to? I'm seeing King Crimson on Sunday. Other than that I am still useless but not as bad as yesterday.

Don't get me wrong. I watch reality TV like everyone else. My current fave is 'The Two Corey's', although I will actually admit to watching 'America's Got Talent' now and then. On one desolate Sunday when I was recovering from a migraine I actually saw a whole season of 'America's Top Model' on MTV. True, in my pitifully weakened state I wasn't up to operating the remote but I watched it just the same. By the way, I had to look up who Mr Thicke was because I didn't know, so who is the dork now!
8/14/08 11:47am
Glad to hear some one is watching quality entertainment. Not much can be said I guess for the "Project" type shows. Every once in a while I like watching "glazed ham" tv. Isn't it "annoying" when "people" "use" "quotations" "alot".
Yes I have seen M. I like Peter Lorre too. I think the closest we have to him is Alan Thicke. Just kidding- but wouldn't it be funny if he was in M? you don't have to laugh if you don't want. I am okay with my corniness.
Yeah its Thursday! I am a dork!

they usually give us a credit, we have been on several of those little Porterville recorder videos, but not that one, for some reason. There was hardly anyone at the event because of the heat. By the way, I did get my water turned back on so all is peace and light here in Happy V alley. I am not watching Project Runway but I am half watching 'the Maltese Falcon' on TCM for the 9 millionth time. Peter Lorre was a God! have you ever seen 'M'?
8/13/08 8:18pm
Hey just checked out the video. Cars, sun and music! That's cool that they used you guys for the ending. Not sure if I caught it, but do they credit your band?
Now I must watch Project Runway and become a vegetable.

Bad day. Forgot to pay the water bill, water got turned off, car is off the road till friday so I have to walk to the bank and then city hall to get it turned on again. Meanwhile, the local paper have a video of the event we played Saturday. I haven't got any fiction up anywhere at the moment but when/if I do I will let you know. I must have got heat stroke or something on Saturday, I have been feeling crap ever since, but I feel a bit brighter today and I might write a blog entry or two. I have a mix on here I am working on as well. Then again, i might actually get down to some bloody work. I'll try not to though!

Hey there! Thank you very much. I really really appreciate you checking it out. Now my nerves can rest a bit. :)
I haven't heard Jimmy Boy. I will definitely check it out.
Wow were you jamming outside? The heat sound dreadful. It's been a hot here too. A lot of thunder and lightening storms recently. Today it's raining. Gonna see Batman finally. I was such a lazy bum yesterday. I watched the whole marathon of Damages on FX and of course it was gorgeous outside.
Thanks again for checking out my writing. Please keep me updated on anything new you have written. Do you have any fiction you've written? Be well.
Peace B

It has been a rough day today gigging in 100f heat and dealing with smalltown shit, but the last 30 minutes has been pretty good. I just read your blog. You tell stories and paint pictures with words. Also, I liked how the monologues had their own rhythyms. The Dad/Circus one was very beautiful, the football game one took a suprizsng turn but it was the one about Miki and Niki that really got to me. As I read it I kept thinking of this song that tells a similar story, 'Jimmy Boy' by Green On Red. Anyway, thankyou for letting me read that stuff

Nice midlife crisis list. Especially about the Fox News channel broadcast. :)
That quote was actually a discussion I had with a friend a couple of days ago. It was a very funny moment. We got on the subject of midlife crisis' and were trying to figure out why people only think it happens once in your life--when I think it's something that happens everyday. I think i had a mid life crisis at 16- wondering if it was the right time to shave my pits so I could wear a tank top.
oh oh - so you want to read my stuff. I can direct you to my little blog that I haven't posted on for about 2 years or so. It's a bunch of monologues that belong to bigger pieces. There are some typos and such so please be gentle....
I am getting a stomach ache just thinking about someone reading them...
my cousin's nose would just start bleeding if anyone read his writing. Me, I just feel like vomiting....hmmm you might too after reading it....hope not.
http://bilg inblog.blogspot.com/
Quick followup about my "friend" I kind of parted with. He is now on food-stamps! Mind you, he is 34 years old, very apt to work but refuses to look for a job, can't collect unemployment because he was fired, and got back together with his wealthy girlfriend who is taking him to Greece for a week. HOW ABOUT THAT!!! I tell ya......jeez!

My midlife crisis (I call it that just in case I live to be 100) feels like the following:
The Fox News Channel is broadcasting misinformation from my lower intestines and there is nothing I can do about it...
While at the same time taking a reactionary position seems reasonable for the first time in my life...
I have given up wanting people to love me because time has told me this is an unlikely outcome...
Yet I resent the fact that people I meet don't immediately love me...
My ambitions seem more urgent...
The need to sleep 18 hours a day seems more urgent...
I am finally sure of my place in the world...
I am really fucked off at my place in the world...
But hey, everyone is different except for maybe Mormons and cloned sheep. Is there anything of yours anywhere I could read? I would really like to

Glad to hear that you got away and got to do some "homespeak". I was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Flushing, Queens (I know very pretty), but I have managed not to have a heavy New YAWK accent. A couple of months ago, I met friends of a friend who were from Flushing and when I started tawkin' to them, my Queens accent came out big time. The Queens button just went off in my head. All in all it was good times.
Good to hear that you are working on publishing something. I am sure you'll get back to the theatre book soon. Stay cool dude!!
Ohva an owt frum ohva heyah!

Glad you had a nice getaway. I just had a few days at South Mission beach, San Diego, visiting my closest friend from England who was over on a family vacawtion with his inlaws. It was great to indulge in 'Londonspeak' for a few days. I didn't even know that existed until I was away from it and didn't haqve it any more. Anyway, it was a real tonic.
Glad you liked the blog and that you are writing. I have decided to shelve the theater book, for the moment at least, and have set myself the deadline of self publishing something by Christmas. I am also recording next month with a view to putting out a cd of originals so either the last third of the year will be mega productive, or it won't. I was planning a couple of blog entries tonight, but ever since I got home from the coast yesterday and hit the hotter than hot weather again, I have just felt achey and sleepy. I will give in to it now and try again tomorrow.

Hey hey!!! What's shakin...other than L.A.? I was away for a week, no computer, TV or phone...well I did have a phone, but the service was pretty nil.
I got a tan, let my hair go back to it's crazy curliness, put Sun-In in my hair, and ate pop-rocks.
My birthday was very low key. I love parties but not really into my own- I think it's denial. My own silliness I guess. When I get around to it, I hope to plan something. We'll see. What's goin on? How are you feeling?
I really like your blog. You inspired me to start writing again and I actually finished something that I had been working on. Thank you!
Well back to work I guess.... cheers B

That sounds so cool. All of it! I got to study with Wallace Shawn one summer and briefly got to meet Edward Albee. I had so much fun that summer, that's when I knew that I loved to write. Mind you, I was an fashion illustration/ illustration major in school. I totally took a turn somewhere. It's all for the better anyway I guess. I would jam with someone, as long as they didn't mind my awful drumming and singing, oh and singing in jibberish- gosh I love that.
Until next time, my friend. Be well!

I knew of Timberlake Wertenbaker in the 90s, she is an American writer and her material then dealt with aspects of working class life, industrial life in particular, and she was percieved as 'a woman's writer'. The tutor of Sarah's that I knew was the only tutor I didn't like. We had this argument over an Edward Bond play and I found her a hard person to get along with. Trevor Griffiths (the Comedians) was head of our department, and David Hare (The Romans In Britain, etc) was a guest lecturer, so we had mostly great people. Apparently Sarah had a problem with her as well, that was the one thing we ever found out, but no specifics. Ads an odd aside, I joined the degree course late, they let me do it in two years instead of three because of my pro experience, etc, but if I had of been in the first year one of my fellow students would have briefly been Sinead O'Connor, who wanted to study theater and signed up for the degree course but dropped out after three months.
I will submit a play to direct, maybe one of my own, but I don't want to act at this level again. I was never that good or anything, but although I will play guitar with anyone just to keep on going years after I thought I had lost music for ever, amateur theatre here anyway can be so soul destroying. I did think of submitting 'Inherit The Wind' just to upset the religious loonies.

I am not familiar with Timberlake Wertenbaker. I will do some research.
Your tutor say anything about Sarah? Just curious.
Why not give the 9/10 season a shot. If of course they do something you like- or something you find challenging. I am always looking for new (new to me) stuff that I'd like to read. I will def. check out Timberlake.

I saw Cleansed when it opened ast the Royal Court in 1998. At that time, I was still doing my rather late theater studies degree at North London Uni, and one of my tutors had also taught Sarah Kane at Bristol Uni. Knowing this particular lecturer, I can understand the whole University as concentration camp thing in that play.
As for the community theater company, they do try and put on some newer stuff as well as the standards. I played the father in 'Proof' last year for instance, in what I intend to be my last acting role. I might submit something contentious for the 09/10 season. Maybe Frozen, or Bleacher Bums. Theater is in short supply down our way. You get Broadway touring companies in Fresno and Bakersfield, a little experimental stuff in Bakersfield, but otherwise, community theater all the way till you hit L.A or San Francisco.
Do you like Timberlake Wertenbaker?

I do like Sarah Kane. I have her complete plays. I was obsessed with her for a bit. She is quite heartbreaking and complex. Very interesting. A couple of months ago Crave was being done locally here and I wanted to do it so bad, but alas - no audition.
Blasted always messes with my mind.
LaBute's style of conversation is cool.I like the monologue of the girl riding home with her mom from the rehab center. Does your theatre put up a lot of modern stuff? Will you get a chance to do some plays? I'd like to do a play soon.
Hope all is well today and your gigs are great. ttyl

Have you ever seen any of Sarah Kane's plays? I saw her last one before she died. I like Autobahn. I was going to do the part where the guy has cussed at his wife in the market and is trying to talk his way out of it, only to dig himself in deeper and deeper.
Thanx for the support about the test (MRI brain scan). I am being a tad panicky today. I have gigs tomorrow and Saturday, so something to look forward to

Those mormons! LaBute has that affect on them, huh? I actually like Autobahn and I like most of his stuff. My teacher hates his stuff.
I have not really written anything worthwhile lately. I have been trying to rework some pieces just to put them to rest, but I am finding that hard to do. My motivation has been very melancholy. I have a whole sink full of dishes that I am going to force myself to do. I hate doing dishes. I will vacuum, do the laundry, clean the bathtub, all that other stuff, but I despise doing dishes. I would just rather eat out of paper cups and throw it away. I know- not very green. I do love cooking though.
I really hope your tests are ok. I know you'll be fine. Don't let the sterility of the place get to you.
I look forward to your satisfaction mix.
I guess I'll start those dishes--really this time!
You like Moondog? Listening to his stuff lately. He uses alot of sounds in his arrangements. It's nice- There's this one piece called Lullaby where it starts off with a baby crying and then goes into japanese singing with some native american influence and drums , then ends with a japanese lady talking to the baby. It's cool.
Well, it's off to the kitchen for me. Don't worry about Friday.
Cheerz!

All kinds of things are shaking here. Mormons tried to shut down the community theatre here (their move coincided with the opening of Neil LaBute's Autobahn which they hate!) It looks like they might buy the old theatre in town and want to stage musicals etc there. I suspect what they have planned is not what I would call 'community', i.e, theatre for and by the community.
My health is all over the shop right now. I have a test on Friday that is freaking me out but hopefully it will be cool.
I am working on a companion to my disappointment mix, this time the theme is satisfaction.
What's going on with you? Are you writing anything?

Good to hear from you. I was offline for a bit recently, and it was pretty nice! Things have not been good here lately, and it is all too easy to disappear into the net to avoid all the crap that really needs to be taken care of!
One thing I don't miss about England is jerks on trains. The London underground is full of them! Once, there was this respectable looking old woman on the tube late at night who took offence to me for some unknown reason and promptly told me to get out of the country and to go back home where I came from. I helpfully tried to point out that I was born and bred about three stops down the line, but she was certain that I was some kind of undesirable alien who needed repatriating.
I actually think that watching a firework display on TV that was happening a few blocks away is pretty cool! It's shame we couldn't watch our work on TV so we didn't have to go.
As for the meaning of life, I tend to go with the one suggested at the end of Monty Python's Meaning Of life movie. Something about trying to read a few good books, travel a bit and try not to be too horrible to anyone. That probably isn't what it said at all, but it seems to work for me. As to why people suck, they suck because they can!

I meant to write "taking the subway"- not "talking the subway" although that could be a great new term to use. ie: I got jumped cuz I been talking the subway and runnin my attitude wild.
7/8/08 10:41am
Hey there! I'm good. Just been working like mad and I was without cable for about a week, so I had to do dial-up and my time on the world-wide-webs was limited. I have to tell you, it kind of felt nice. Other than that I watched the fireworks for the 4th on TV, even though it was happening about 2 blocks away from me. I know I'm lame. Other than that, just trying to figure out the meaning of life and why people suck. I was talking the subway home at around 5:30 am last week and some drunk guy on the train asked me if I wanted to take the train home, which I was already doing, but I told him "no" and he called me a creep. Funny though- it kind of hurt my feelings- I don't think I have ever been called that. Oh well. How's things?
7/8/08 10:38am
Bonjour,
Yeah, I have the web pages but nothing on them as yet. I am working on a couple of mixes myself. Did you see my Bo Diddley mix. It was a spur of the moment tribute thing but it kept me quiet for an hour. I am exhausted. In the last twenty four hours I have gone from Porterville to Ventura to San Diego to Ventura and back home again due to family emergencies. It is approaching triple digits here and I have a four set gig this evening from six in the open air, or what passes for air in the Central Valley.
I am looking forward to next weekend more because a friend from London, Pete Brown, will be over working in LA for a couple of weeks. He is the guy who wrote the lyrics for Cream and Jack Bruce songs back in the day and he is a very rare thing in the music biz, an honest decent funny person. Anyway, he is over mixing an album and we will meet up. He is staying at the Chateau Marmot on Sunset which is very rock and roll but of course not as fab gear and groovy as the Econo Lodge I can afford! Anyhow, I am really looking forward to seeing him.
Meanwhile, have a great weekend, enjoy the mix making and I will try not to expire in the bloody heat.

hey hey hey! What's shakin? I am just happy it's the weekend. i have gotten to that pathetic point where I live for Fridays. How's the music going? I saw that you got some websites going on. That's cool. I haven't been on in a while. I want to try to put a mix together. I will probably put it together tonight/ morning somewhere around 3 am maybe....but we'll see. I want to see The Happening tonight. I am not a big fan of Shamalama but want to see how he ties this all up. I think it's funny how they are pushing it as his first R rated film.
How are you healing up? Hope all is swell.

6/14/08 10:28am
Yes, I like Blues Brothers very much. The first film anyway. The second one is a bit shite although the music is ok. I will seek out the people you mention because that is the kind of rock and roll animal that I am. As for data entry, I sympathize. The thing creative people do when they are not being creative or there are no substances to abuse. i once did a data entry job transferring tax details from a card system to a computer. The only thing it had going for it apart from the paycheck was that I got to learn who had the silliest names in my home town. My favourite two were Attila Klingsik and Selvin McBeady.
6/4/08 12:05am
Hello hello! My head has been buried in mindless but very time consuming computer entry for work---just what I always wanted to do with my life...
Anywho...two hour gig! Wow! I would be tired too. Good to hear that you actually had a honorable Memorial Day. I would really hate to see this site go. I try to be more active on it, but lately I haven't had the time to put a mix together or actually sit down and write. Well maybe reply to you and a few others on the site.
It's funny you mention Vic Mackey. I was thinking of doing a follow up mix. I also wanted to finish my Oren & Margaret Machine 2 mix. it's sitting in my mixes. Oh well....Just listening to Samiam right now and I think I will call it a night from computer entry. Did you know that 9 digit customer numbers can cause a person to go cross eyed? Cross I noW eyeD am
Found a site that had Blues Brothers music live from 79 and 80. It's pretty cool.
Do you like the Blues Brothers? I love the film. I was thinking that I needed to buy it and add it to my collection of DVD's.
You ever hear of Famous L. Renfroe? I just got it off of emusic. I really like it.
Something old is something new. Hey you ever hear of Mingering Mike. I won't say more, but if you don't know (you probably do) check him out. Interesting life and mind. I love that kind of stuff.
Ok, so I have rambled. ramble ramble. I will shut up now.
cheers!
Hiya. How are you? I had a migraine all weekend but today I feel bloody good despite the ridiculous central valley heat. I am doing some recording tonight with a view to doing something with it which is exciting. Only a mere twenty six years between releases if I can mange to get something out.
Meanwhile, I feel like the old MTC is fading away, and it scares me a little. I spend about an hour a day on the net, mostly writing emails and checking out MTC plus a little music downloading. It would be a shame if this place just fell out of the electronic sky!
Just to end on a different note, a guy working in my local market today was the spitting image of Vic Mackie. Quite scary when all you want to do is to ask where they moved the cheese to!

I am glad you had a relaxing weekend. The gig on Monday was, well, different. This was the last gig with our drummer who has left for another band. Like our other guitarist, he is a a member of the Yakut native american tribe, and he had fixed up for us to play at the Memorial Day lunch at the nearby Tule River reservation, which is up in the mountains above our odd little town. A lot of traffic goes up that way as there is a casino up there, and the road was crowded on the way up. As we got near to the res, what appeared to be a procession was coming down from the casino. To cut a long story short, our truck somehow became part of the veterans procession, with people out on the streets taking pictures of us, and us posing and waving back as those are the kind of people we are! After a very slow progression through the res, we arrived at the sports hall where the ceremony was to take place. Unlike most qausi military things I havre experienced, this was actually dignified and even beautiful, with Yakuts singing Indian songs in honour of their dead family members. Alongside the US, Californian and regimental flags, there was also the ceremonial tribal spear of the Yakut. I am an anti war kind of person, but as I say, the whole ceremonial side of this moved me a lot. Then, we had to go and break the mood by playing. The second set was nearly two hours long and I could hardly stand afterwards, I was that tired, but I got through it and in all it was a pretty good experience.

How was the gig!?
It was a gorgeous weekend---did nothing but relax and hang with friends.

Healing pretty well, but I am doing a 4 hour gig on Memorial day which will be a real test. How are things in sunny NY?

I love that story. Disgusting and entertaining at the same time!!

This is an audience story, but one that seems to stick with me. In the early 80s, I was working for a small touring theater company in Birmingham, England and also gigging with a Carribean blues and soca singer, so I tended to be busy. When I did get a night off, we tended to go for it. One night, we had gone to a pub in Birmingham where a new band The Jesus and The Mary Chain were playing. My friends and I were happily off our heads and missed the early part of the set because one of the people who was with us slid down a wooden bannister not noticing that one of the guys from the support band was leaning against it. It all ended in much shouting and pointing (from his one good hand anyway) but was finally resolved by the plying of much beer.
We finally got back to the gig, which I have to say was magnificent. The crowning glory for me though was that on the very last note and drum beat of the set, someone in the crowd (some feet away from the stage) projectile vomitted, the puke flying high above the crowd and totally hitting a very unhappy Jim Reid totally. It was the timing, right on the very last note of the set that impressed me. No million dollar pyrotechnics could have been any better! I know that the band had a reputation for being moody on stage early on, playing short sets, turning their backs to the audience, etc, and I have always liked to think that it might just have been because of this gig.

so the road to recovery is being paved! Take your time, rest and relax when you can, but you probably know that. hope your book isn't held up because of someone's sensitive feelings. what are going to do now about the band? figures they decide while you are recuperating. keep up the gigs anyway. I think it will help keep your mind at ease, right? Your new toy sounds great. I do the same thing with manuals. I try to figure it out as I go along. Sometimes reading instructions seem like wasting time especially when you want to play. Although I am sure it is beneficial to read everything before hand.
i say "what's shakin' all the time! I have been working a lot. Kind of doin' the do of work life. Other than that, nothing. Pretty boring huh? Yes! Bring on the stories. No pressure. anytime you can! cheers!

Hi! It has been a very strange week. I had my second procedure, results came in which were not as bad as they could be but enough to freak me out a little. We went to the coast to be with relatives over the weekend which was actually quite nice for once! I got back, still a bit sore, but generally ok. I was greeted by some shitty emails about my book, and then I found out two members of my band left putting 10 or 12 paid gigs in peril. Tuesday night I played with a pickup band at the local state hospital and it was perhaps the strangest but by no means worst gig I have ever been involved in. I am doing ok though. I bought things to turn my PC into a recording studio today and have been happily making noise and sticking to the male doctrine of not reading instruction manuals and then wondering why it took four hours to make everything work. A fun four hours now. How about you? What's shakin' as we geriatric Brits say? (Well, I am the only one who says it still, I think!) I shall come up with another story in the next day or so if thats ok.
5/15/08 10:57pm
well then hope your first meal of the week was satisfying! Ah yes Black Keys- good music to recoop to. Just been listening to a lot of different stuff. oldies-newbies. my dad sent me bose earbuds- excellent! I am so spoiled now, jamming out on the subway. AND they don't fall out of my ears. I hate that. My computer speakers on the other hand--i think i blew them out--oops.
I never learn. chow!
I never learn. chow!
5/8/08 11:46am
I'm home, sore, miserable, but the Black Keys are blasting out of my pitifully weakened speakers, I am about to eat for the first time since Monday, and pretty much all is well with the world. Have a great day/evening/night (delete where applicable!) Toodle Pip
5/7/08 11:51am
oh dear well I hope you get some decent recoop time and any other procedures are not so bad. i love indian food too and i always feel gorged afterwards. Glad you got to groove for the mountain people or half mountain people. I am guessing Golightly is supposed to help things run smooooth. :) Hang in there. I wish you the best health! Go ROCKIN! (i know cheesy)

I am having even more horrible done at the hospital tomorrow which means I don't get to eat today. Then, by the end of the week, I should know what other horrible things they are going to do to me. I had a great weekend though. My band played to a bunch of rednecks on Saturday, but it was fun, halfway up a mountain. Then we took off for a couple of nights to Bakersfield, and spent the time eating Indian food (my favorite) and watching silly movies at a $1.50 movie house. I am glad you had fun at your friends show. I always liked to mess with friends and colleagues whether I was in the show or in the audience! I have to go drink something called "Golightly" which I presume will either do something unpleasant or else turn me into Audrey Hepburn!
5/6/08 1:27pm
That is hilarious. His face must have been priceless!
Hope you are resting from your surgical procedures. Do you have any left?
I went to see a friends show with some of my other friends and throughout the whole show we all had the giggles and could not stop laughing. Luckily it was somewhat of a comedy, but during some "serious" parts I totally lost it. It was fun. My friend said that he recognized our laughs and was trying not to laugh himself. We were trying so hard to break him. Good times.
Hope all is swell!!

Story 4 the day:
1. In my brief time in music management, I shared an office with two old music biz sweats in Camden Town, which is a funky part of North London, home to most of the bottom feeding to mid range music biz. The two old guys were always regaling me with their war stories of what the biz was like in the 60s, and we used to mess with each other which was far more enjoyable than doing any real work. One day, I answered the phone, and it was Air Studios and George Martin's secretary saying that Mr Martin would like to speak to Stuart, my colleague. I told Stuart this and he took the phone, all the time believing that it was a practical joke on my part and that he would in fact be talking to one of the people in the music agency upstairs. The secretary told him Mr Martin would like to speak to him at which point Stuart said "This is a recording, please tell Mr Martin to kindly fuck off after the tone, beep beep beep!" He hung up, didn't believe me when I said it really was George Martin and kept on not believing me till a music biz friend of stuarts called him saying that Air Studios had called asking if he had the correct number for Stu as the number they had was answered by some drunk guy!

oh and the Barney pic is priceless-- on a side note- I watched an episode one time (nothing was on) and there was a thunderstorm in a park and Barney talked everyone to go into an empty cave to keep dry from the rain. All I kept thinking was, please let there be a bear or a snake in the cave--jump out and scare the crap out of everyone. But alas, no- so it IS safe to go into caves. There are so many in NYC. :)

oh surgical procedures never sound fun. Hope it's painless and you heal fast! You know, I was always like I would never go back to being 12, but i would love at least a week of it. I would freak out! Freak out I say!
Another story? Hells yeah! I love reading them.
Other than that- I have been real good. Don't want to jinx it, but so far, so good. be well! can't wait for the story!

Hi. how you doing? I had an unpleasant surgical procedure today with another one on the way next week. More proof if I needed it that middle age sucks. I just want to fast forward through the rest of it and get to the second childhood stage!
Thought I might do another story this week if you are up for it.

That's funny. A BIG GROSS shout out to Mr. Freeballs though.

I have to say that the guy in question was very sleazy. It wouldn't suprise me to learn that he knew he was showing more than his harp playing onstage. I don't know about the chair, I am all for burning the theatre, but that might not be to do with him so much!
4/24/08 7:27pm
oh gosh gross-
why???!!!! was it hot that day?
My friend was doing a scene from a play for class one time and he was wearing satin boxer shorts- and then he sat down- not a good idea- funny thing is that everyone called him on it right after- even the teacher- there was even talk about burning the chair he sat in, so no one would sit on it. we still tease him about it. he's a good sport luckily!

Both those clips you saw were shot at 'Blues At the Barn' a fund raiser I organized for THAT community theatre in March 2007. I was still finding my way as far as playing again was concerned, but I did have fun. Now, that guy who played mouth harp on the acoustic song, there is a story to tell there. We shall call him Mr X although his real name is Dennis. He isn't that great, but my theory was that in keeping with my take on the whole community theatre thing, this should be a night for people who don't know what they are doing as much as for people who did. Dennis was limited to a few appearances on the two nights we performed. Now, he did strike me as a little odd, but odd is not odd when it comes to the folk you meet at the Barn theatre in particular and Porterville in general. However, the 2nd night we played and Dennis got up to play, I could sense some considerable disquiet in the audience. I didn't understand why, but at the interval a few people came up to me and asked me to make sure he didn't 'do that again'. One guy said his children were in the audience but failed to explain the significance. Finally, someone who was an actual friend of mine told me what was going on. Dennis the harp player wasn't wearing undies and when he sat down to play, legs apart, the first three rows were treated to candid views of his testicular areas. As my friend suggested, you need big balls to get up on stage, but that is taking things too far! I don't think there is anything exposed on that youtube clip but even so, the memory lingers on!
4/23/08 10:27pm
It's crap when relationships are put in peril like that. I hope it works out for you sooner than you think it might.
The irony with my situation is that one of the main reason I got involved in this theatre here anyway was I was a new boy in a new town and country and I wanted to make new friends. I also thought that in some way I would be 'giving back!" Well, I have made some good friends, but at the moment they are outnumbered by the enemies. As for giving back, it seems that what I have to give is not what some of the locals want.
I didn't mention that other vid on youtube for a good reason, but now that you have seen it, that can become the next story...

That's awesome! I watched the other video you had up too! You look very comfortable on stage jamming- so you know you must love it. It shows!
You're right about musicians and actors unless you get an actor who is a musician as well. I kind am bummed that my friendship went sour, but then again I feel less stressed out. He has a lot of baggage- not that I don't but, I don't unload it everywhere I go. I know we will both come around. Unfortunately I feel it won't be for a while. I don't mind not winning the festival. I am satisfied nonetheless. Those voting things I feel are sometimes a stupid popularity contest.
Rest is next up for me- for about a week (really that means- catching up to my job-job which I kind of neglected- oops) I am writing a play/musical next. Comical musical. Not jazz hands- musical. Something cool- hopefully. it's a project I work-shopped last year and got a great response. It's a collaborative deal, so I am crossing my fingers! AND I can finally return to my drum lessons!!! I am psyched about that! I use pillows at home--not the same feeling after a while.:) Hopefully next year I will have a decent drum set!
Hey put me down for one book- I would love to read it. I will send you a check or you think I can get it through amazon? Let me know the release date!
EXORCIST! that's cool! you know I always liked Tubular Bells. That movie still scares the shit out of me. I say up and onward to both of us's!! Cheers! rah rah

Hi! I am sorry your play didn't win, and as for temperamental actors, I know all about them. One thing I have noticed concerning musicians and actors is that musicians can have the most disgusting petulant frenzy, but hours later it is all forgotten whereas actors can harbor grudges over relatively petty things for years! Now the play is done, what's next?
The book does look at Community Theatre in general, but it does deal specifically with the sixty years this particular one has been in existence. Speaking of voice overs, I was going through tons of old photos from the theatre when I found one of Mercedes McCambridge appearing at a benefit show in the fifties. She made quite a few movies in the late forties/early fifties, but she made most impact on my generation by doing the 'demon' voice on the original version of The Exorcist. I will still put the book out, and sales will be hit a little by all the crap, but I am really only expecting to sell a few hundred anyway. I just want it out and out of the way so I can concentrate on the new project.
I will send you links of the new videos on Youtube once they are up. There is one ok clip from the band I was in last year up there now. I will find the link and send it along! Toodle Pip

hey there! Well our play went up Friday night. It went well. One of the actors forgot one line- so that made them jump about 8 lines altogether. They fudged it well though. No one noticed. We didn't win our night. We came in second. We lost to a play called The Day Marlon Brando Died. They move on to the finals next weekend. I am happy regardless. I am also glad it's over. I was getting tired of arguing with the actors (who are also my friends). You would think it would be easier working with friends and I have in the past, but this time it was a little trying. I am still not really talking to one of them. He was the one who dropped the line. He got so pissed at himself that he started arguing with me right after the show. So I basically said "good riddance". Oh well. The celebration afterwards was great though. Alot of my other friends and family were there and I had the best time. The highlight for me was, one of the actors of "The Day Brando Died" is the voice of Fritz the Cat! Skip Hinnant! Now THAT was cool! Otherwise I am doing real well!
Glad to hear there was some kind of resolve to your theatre experience. Hope you can keep going on with your book. Is the book directly about them or is it about community theatre in general? Are they just a pissy group of clowns? They should just eat crow.
Yes I would like to see you bluesing out on youtube. Now THAT sounds grand!
Be well! cheers!

How are you? How is the play going? I resolved the stupidity with the community theater by severing most ties with them. It got very silly and stressful last week. There were wild threats going around and I am afraid I blew. I don't know quite where that leaves my book, but I have spent too long and worked too hard not to publish it. My band played Friday and it was a nice outdoor gig, a lot of fun. We play at a festival Saturday afternoon for two hours and then four hours in a bar later. I can't wait. We will have some videos on youtube soon. It is old man blues but played with passion, which I think makes a change. Anyway, just wanted to say hi. Take care.
4/21/08 6:49pm
Thinking of 25 things to do with a follow spot that don't include lighting helped the whole shitstorm thing. It all got very ugly, but my band starts gigging on Friday, an open air Gazebo thing, so I am looking forward to that and trying to forget the silliness.
I am glad you are doing a bit better. Going back to old haunts that contain shared memories is tough, but good too. It is something I wish I could do. I am really in the mood for a mooch round the sleazier parts of London's West End. I am going to a sleazy dive here in Porterville tonight though, so that is good Take care

Hey, you survive the shit storm from those peeps at the theater? Did you break the "fourth wall" over somone's head? :) Feeling better--thankfully- hope you are too. I wanted to tell you that I made to my local hang,Magnetic Fields last night. Boy was it a tearjerker- but it was a good one. You're a gem. Be well!!!

Auntie Doris is a real good sort by the way!
4/14/08 2:16pm
Quite alright by me. I hope your rehearsal goes well. I am facing a shit storm from the community theater I am involved in. I directed their silly musical as a favor, and now one of the 'stars' is addressing the board tonight saying I treated her unfairly. She was one of the few with pro experience in the cast and yes, we pushed her further than some of the others as she purported to know what she was doing, but this is very silly. Being summoned in front of the board does sound more dramatic than anything that usually happens on their stage so I will play the scene out!
4/14/08 2:15pm
Thanks for the support. Have to go to rehearsal now, but wanted to touch base. If it's ok, I deleted my post. I don't want to read it anymore...y'know...
anyway ! cheers Auntie :)

Yeah, I was an actor musician back in the day, then after I got sick I went back and got a theater studies degree. I directed Oliver recently at the community theater I am writing the book about. Not my cup of tea, but I did it as a favor and I did enjoy working with a large cast of kids. What is the play you are directing?
4/12/08 3:47pm
love the story. no worries. Trying to get over a flu-cold thing that won't leave my body and just trying to deal with the goings on around me. So you taught drama too? I am directing a play for a 15 minute festival that's going up next week.

How I made the transformation from bottom feeding musician to bottom feeding music biz person and back again is a story in itself...
I 1994 I got really sick and it took me three years to get anywhere near healthy. I went back to University planning to teach drama and music. The day I was leaving college (1998) I had arranged to go to a club in Camden Town to see my all time musical hero Peter Green play. Peter founded Fleetwood Mac in the Sixties, took too much acid, became a paranoid schizophrenic, left the music biz, made a brief comeback in the 80s and then returned again in the mid 90s. I was going to the gig with my best friend Bill and a friend from Wales, who I had met online as a result of a fansite I ran in Peter's honor. We turned up at the gig and were fairly drunk by the time we got inside the club. So much so that we felt the need to sit down. It was pretty much standing room only, but there were a few chairs vacant next to one table which had an old guy with a walking cane and a few very odd people in fishing hats sitting round. Someone who worked at the club (Dingwalls) told us we couldn't use the chairs, but the old guy with the cane said we were in his party. It turns out that he was Stuart Taylor, Peter's manager. He bought us more drinks, I wasn't supposed to be drinking at all at the time, and things got very relaxed. Peter played but I can't really remember much about the gig. My friend Bill had to get up in the morning so he went home, leaving the two of us there. It turned out that one of the guys in a fishing hat was Gary Moore, a rock guitarist of some repute, but I was not impressed. My Welsh friend was if anything more drunk than me, and she started telling anyone who would listen that I did a web site about Peter and that I should do the official site.
The gig finished and there were a bunch of people waiting for Peter to emerge from the dressing room. My friend just waltzed in there and came out with Peter on her arm. He came over to us and asked for coffee. This was overwhelming to me. I had met a fair few musicians over the years, but this was different, I had idolized this musician since I was 16. He took one look at me (I am somewhat rotund) and asked if I was one of the bouncers. I was crestfallen, and his manager Stuart explained that the only subjects that Peter would open up on were food, guitars and travel. I tried food and travel to no effect, but when I got on to guitars, and asked him about a specific concert the year before, he became animated and for a few minutes we had a real discussion. I was like a kid at Christmas. Then, he was gone, off up the motorway being driven to the next nights gig. We stayed talking to his manager some more, he took my number, but I had forgotten why he might have wanted it. I was keeping quiet that I had been a musician up till a few years before.
Finally my friend Jen and I got up to leave. We went out of the main exit, but there seemed to be a ramp that was not there on the way in. She was ahead of me, and she seemed to hit this wooden wall that stopped her from walking any further. She kept walking anyway. It was about this time
that I realised we had actually walked into the back of one of the equipment trucks that was about to be full of Peter's PA, etc! I just turned her around and she walked straight out of there.
I thought that would be the end of it, my one meeting with someone I had always admired. However, a few days later I heard from his manager, I was hired to do his official web site, and within a year I was sharing an office with his management, and in fact was managing another old Brit blues legend myself.
I actually once planned to write a book based on my dealings with Peter, I in fact wrote most of it, but I left it for other projects. Peter is a trip though. Some folk that meet him don't see beyond his illness, but he has a wicked sharp sense of humor. When asked once if he believed in life after death, he said he wasn't sure he believed in this one yet. Another time when he and Stuart were sitting outside a pub, a sad old fan liked me saw him and asked for an autograph. Peter looked up at him and asked "What's the alternative?" I could go on.
I thought you might be fed up with my stories. I get like that every now and then. It has not been too good a few weeks here either. I have plenty of ancient stories to go, plus a few not so ancient ones.

oh no was it something i said? been a tough week- only got miserable stories, not worth sharing.....yet

hey there- not a really a story but- One of my local hangs is throwing in the towel. It was a good place where I had great surprise birthday parties, sharpened my pool skills (until they got rid of the pool table), saw some great bands, took great black/white photobooth pics, played family guy pinball (which rocks), hung out with friends but regrettably never took advantage of their live band karaoke. DAMN. Bottom line is I will miss the place. Then I realized that I hadn't been there in such a long time. Bartenders left, the crowd changed a little, hanging out seemed less appealing. I fell in love with my couch again. Things changed I guess. Still feel sad though. It's like losing a friend- not to death or anything, but more to divergence. You know...you say potato, I say potato(e). I am sure I am not the reason for the closing, but wouldn't it be interesting if they laid that sort of guilt on me. I wish. The clencher is tonight, they are having a surprise concert with Yo La Tengo (not such a surprise anymore) and I will be celebrating a close friend's surprise birthday party- elsewhere. DAMN. I have to remember friendship is deeper than beer, a crowded hot room and music- RIGHT- Hah who am I kidding!!
I know I will miss the place. I know it. I will. I do already.
RIP Magnetic Field
cheers

ok here I go- I used to video tape performance artists through a company called Rehab Video and there was a performance artist that liked what I did, filming wise and pretty much requested me all the time- so I became like his own "taper" if you will. His name was POPO- he was from Japan and he and his troop were always painted white - like kabuki (sp?) with a very modern twist.- He always ended his pieces wearing a wedding dress- I know- very 80's. So POPO was performing at PS 122 - (independent artist spot that used to be a school) and I had to stand on the window pane to film POPO , at his request. So while I was trying to balance myself on the ledge with a tripod and camera and trying oh so hard no to fall, I saw Iggy Pop come in and sit down right in front of where my window was. It was funny because through out the whole performance I was checking out what Iggy was doing instead of concentrating on Popo's dance moves. After the performance I joined everyone one the floor and was still a little googly eyed from seeing Iggy. I turned toward my friend and said in " Iggy Pop's here." Then I heard someone near us say, "Yeah he was." It was David Byrne and I just looked at him and was like " whhhaaaaa". I was embarrassed, but I remember thinking that it was such a cool night. -- I am easy to please, I guess. Cheers.

THANK YOU!!!!! I am eating up your stories!!! I love it!! Thank you for taking the time to write, I really appreciate it!!!! I miss the early rawness of music sometimes. I know there is some rawness now, but it's a little "shiny" if you know what I mean. I walked by where CB's used to be--it's going to be a clothing store- so I think it's important to keep stories alive! In return I'll trade a story with you. Cheers friend! B

It's not very exciting. It's called "Raising The Barn" and is about community theater. The local community theater is 60 years old this year, and I am using that fact as a frame to hang a hopefully funny short book about the whole CT thing! My third book, which I hope to have out by Christmas is already half written and it is back to a music theme, a personal history of blues music in Britain. I certainly don't pick best seller subjects do I!
Anyway, I raise a glass of apple juice to you! Cheers
