hahaha, i'd like to think that he listened to the tape so much because of me... but then again, it was a pretty sweet mix. haha ;)
as for turntables, a couple good companies to look into are Numark and Stanton. i prefer stanton, but they're both fantastic and relatively affordable.

That's plain awesome. And yeah, no one can resist Portishead once they've had it in their system. Otherwise they're dumb. A lot of people I know are dumb. :(

You know, I've spent the entire month looking at turntables on the Internet, and I still can't figure out which one it should be, how much I should spend on it etc. Do you know of any better-than-your-average brands perhaps?

thanks for the kind words! :) and ohh yeaaah, the mix went over really well with the boy; he totally fell in love with portishead (how could he not, really?)-- although, i later found out his roommates were all sick of the mix because he played it so often!
ps: i totally love that you buy vinyl even without a turntable--i did that for so long. i will tell you, when you finally do get one, it will be the best day ever.
