Sadly no gigs. We arrived Monday morning, and Tuesday I was in HMV for the new Animal Collective. A guy working there told me I had missed their show at Coco in Camden Monday night, and I was so bummed out. Even though it had sold out in advance. He almost had to comfort me in the store when I was buying the album. It was a school trip, though, so we didn't have any plans to go to concerts beforehand (no money and not a hell lot of planning either).
I really really want to go back sometime soon. It was awesome. We even saw the BFI and BBC. Just grreat.

now i am jealous. Because of residency issues, I have been able to leave the USA to pop home to London for the last five years. Did you see any gigs?

Thanks for the birthday greeting. :) I wish I could see The Smiths live as well. They'd be one of the names to headline my contest mix, sure as hell. The one I haven't been around to making, because I've been so busy with other things. I came home from London last week, and I absolutely loved it to pieces!! (duh)

I saw the Smiths once, a free open air gig by the Thames in winter. They did everything you'd have wanted them to, Johnny Marr was great that day.

how cool is that! i like the material on "you are the quarry", but the smiths was far more epic. with the morrissey gig this summer i will have seen half of the original line-up for the band live - yes.

I love Sly Stone stuff. 'Family Affair' is my fave. On youtube, there is video of his recent comeback in Iceland or some such place. It is actually better than you might expect.

http://www.mercora.com don't seem to have any The The tracks available for listen? I looked up Mind Bomb as recommended by you, but other than the track list and the album art.. nothing. I would hate to download anything illegal, but on the other hand, I'd really like to hear their music. Maybe iTunes got some'in? Or last.fm, I'll have a look

More about 'The The' There is one track on www.mercora.com that you can listen to. The album you need to hear (The one with Johnny Marr on) is called 'Mind Bomb' and the name of the main guy in the band was Matt Johnson.

"The The" were another Madchester band around the same time as The Smiths. Johnny Marr worked with them for a year or so I think, but their stuff was interesting. I am trying to remember the name of the leader of the band, Matt something or other. I will see if I can find anything online you can listen to.
