Your November 5th party sounds like fun.

I don't think I will be dressing up for Halloween, but I am going to a November 5th party (oddly enough on 3rd November) with a bunch of other ex patriot Brits. Nov 5th, Guy Fawkes Night, is when the English celebrate a a man who unsuccessfully tried to blow up Parliament four hundred years + ago by eating, drinking, letting off fireworks, burning effigies on bonfires and wearing masks with silly moustaches on. Since I lived in the USA I miss it actually! Back in the day, my favorite outfit to a costume party was a mafia hit man but with the head of a giant yellow bird. Sobriety takes the edge off that kind of thing, but it seemed good at the time. I take it you will be dressing up?
