Description: This year I graduate high school. Ironically, though, whatever the title of this mix may say, this is not the year it's all going to go down. At least, not so far. Since I got kicked out of my high school (in an incident that, all in one blow, pretty much robbed me of any social life I had acquired) I've been homeschooling (I've since finished and I'm just waiting to graduate on June 4), smoking weed, trying to take care of my mother (who has suicidal tendencies), and watching movies. Oh, and listening to music. Specifically, this.

Description: A long time ago I used to live in a little one-church "town" called Big Springs, California. If you've never heard of it you're like most people. It's near Weed, and if you don't know where that is... Google it.

Anyway, when I was a little kid my parents still had a working record player, my dad was working for himself in the drywall business and we were poor but we were making it. My mom was writing, and everyone was happy. At New Year's some of their friends and my aunt and uncle would come over and they'd play old records and drink rum and coke and set off bottle rockets into the sky. I was too young to appreciate their music then. A lot of stuff has happened since then. Now, as a teenager, I'm not turned on by what my generation has come up with so I turn to the sounds that so moved my parents back when rock'n'roll wasn't synonymous with American Idol.

The first half is music that I got from my mom and the second half is stuff from my dad.

Description: I felt like doing another potpourri mix (with entirely different songs). It was fun the first time and now I wanna do it again!

I've been wanting to move out since it got really bad at home, and this year I'm finally going to be able to do it. I'm moving in with my best friend (the one who's graduating). I'm gonna live paycheck to paycheck, baby, and it's gonna rock my world.

These songs make me feel the way I feel. I hope they always remind me of this time in my life.

Description: A long series of inside jokes and code words would have to be explained for the title of this mix to make any sense and/or to stop looking like a horribly cruel and homophobic joke about gays. So I'll give it to you in the track descriptions! Yay!

Description: Since we hung out nearly every day over the break I thought I'd make a sequel to Milla is Mine. The first one really only applied to that certain period when we were first getting to know each other. This one is a little more inclusive of songs we both actually like and that actually remind me of him :P

Title explanation: He had a little crush on Cillian Murphy until I showed him 28 Days Later. If you've seen it you know why it's funny.

Cover art: He still actually had a crush on Cillian Murphy so I lent him Breakfast on Pluto. The whole Buffalo-Springfield-Chanel bit was his favorite part, and now he thinks we should be friends with Kitten. Indeed, one of our friends (who has never seen the movie) does a dead-on Kitten impression.

I also have to make him a mix, but it will be full of songs he doesn't know/songs he does know but can't find. This, needless to say, isn't it.

Description: This mix is a compilation of some songs that have made my life. Not only the songs, but the artists who created them, will, I think, I hope, be a part of me forever. They've made it into my personal classics. Some of them aren't even my favorite songs - some of them are just so much a part of my musical history that I can't ignore them. I do love all of these songs. I hope you do too.

Description: I wanted this mix to convey like a feverish sexual energy, like teenagers or animals in heat.

Description: Have you ever had a crush on one of your friends, and you start to get really, really close to that person and you think, "Wow, this could really happen"? Then you come to your senses, but you still think about them all the time. That's what made me make this mix.

I've made one mix like this before, but then I actually gave the guy the mix, and he got weirded out and pretty much still avoids me to this day. My relationship with this guy is completely different, but I'm still not giving him the mix. "I love you" mix tapes have had bad consequences for me in the past.

As for the title, me and him constantly argue about who Milla Jovovich "belongs to" since we both have big celebrity crushes on her. Also, his art teacher's friend's wallet got stolen by Milla once. Awesome.

Description: These artists are not all connected through personal or even musicianly connections, and in fact a few of the connections are rather far fetched. However, I saw most of these connections right away, so they can't have been too out there.

Mostly it's yummy musics all connected in one way or another.

Description: In general, I am a happy person. I try to be anyway. But... jeez. Sometimes you get too much, and when you try to keep going (as I did yesterday and this morning) it just gets worse and you have a meltdown.

These are songs that I can listen to that don't make me sick with their optimism, but that I can't wallow in my self-pity to. Because I never saw the point of wallowing in self-pity. I've done it, but it always makes me feel like an idiot afterwards. It's like getting high in front of your crush or giving someone you don't know a love-letter mix tape. I've done both of those, too :P

At any rate, they make me feel so much better, and I'm not yelling at the sky going, "WHY ME?" anymore.

Description: Some of these songs make me cry. Some of them make me happy. Some of them are about love. Some of them aren't. All of them are by/about strong women, and they are all inspiring.

While making the mix, I actually aspired not to have too many happy songs on it. I just wanted to make a mix that conveys a sadness and emotional depth that, for the most part, only women experience (or admit to experiencing).

Description: Robots have a variety of emotions: love, jealousy, anger, apathy. Mostly apathy, honestly. But they're hard workers! You have to give them credit for that!

Description: I know that it is September, and I know that I surmise that they might actually make Halloween mixes a contest, but I couldn't help myself today, so I made this Halloween mix.

While making this mix, I thought about what I would play at a Halloween party a lot. If I were popular enough to do that sort of thing, I would totally throw a Halloween party, but sadly I am... well, just not. And my house is always a mess, so that idea is out entirely. At any rate, I'll probably play it a lot in my new stereo in my newly restored very old car, which hopefully I'll have by the time Halloween rolls around.

ANYWAYS, the point is, this is the kind of mix I would play if I were DJing a Halloween party, as well as some of the more novelty hits such as "The Monster Mash", etc., but as far as it goes right now, I have an 80 minute time frame and I wanted the track number to be something Halloweenish. So there you go.

Furthermore (I know, long description), to clarify, not all the songs on this mix are of the genre "goth", if such a genre does in fact exist, although it does have more Bauhaus than I would have liked had I been able to help it. However, it must be taken into account that Michael Jackson's "Thriller" is track 5 and the catalyst for my assembling this mix. Therefore it can be categorized as a diversified Halloween-type mix of fun.

Description: I'm actually a Junior. In high school, yeah. But... anyway. This mix is the happiness, the fear, and the relaxation of one's last year in the chronically sucky (yet oh-so-comfortable) institution known as high school. It celebrates familiarity, youth and, most of all, slacking. "Slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannon ball, where were you while we were getting high?"

Description: When you hear these songs on the radio, you have to turn it up and start rocking out, no matter how much of an idiot you look. Period. That's it.

Description: Three things:

1) I sort of made this a story tape, taking us from unrequieted love, to losing your lover, to sadness in retrospect.
2) I'm not so good with sad-sad songs, so these are ones you can mostly listen to no matter what mood you're in - they just sort of have a melancholy air about them.
3) This is a blind tape, as I don't have headphones or speakers. I imagine it sounds pretty good, though.

Description: This is a tape I made for my family's trip up to Yreka. I lived there from age 6 to age 13 before we moved to Sacramento. Since we've moved here we don't really leave the city that often, unless it's to go to... you know... another city (San Francisco). It's gonna be kind of trippy to be back "home."

I also had to make it relatively clean so my little brother wouldn't flip out.

Description: These are songs that remind me of London. I know I've never been there, but people are allowed a freedom of imagination, unless I am mistaken. If you don't like it, piss off.

Description: These are songs that make me want to dance. I don't have a lot of pure dance music on my computer but regardless this is stuff that makes me wanna get up and dance!

Description: These are the campest songs in my collection. Well, they're really not, as I do own the entire discography of the Smiths (barring singles, EPs and "Strangeways, Here We Come") and everything the Libertines ever recorded. Let's just put it this way: these are samples of very camp songs in my collection. Okay? Okay.

Description: Basically, songs that are about or give of vibes of neurosis, obsessive compulsive disorder, delusions, and other, ahem... "Personality Crises."

Description: Sort of a concept tape explaining how unsatisfying adolescence can be. Spanning our 'School Days' and our 'Teenage Lust' all the way to feeling 'On My Way'.

Description: Boppin', hoppin', rockin' songs from the glam rock era of early 1970s Great Britain. Good to listen to when: 1) you're feeling a bit flamboyant, 2) you're feeling restless or rebellious, 3) you just wanna kick out the jams (teasing, that one's not on there) or 4) if it's gonna turn into a ballroom blitz!
