Length: 00:04:42
Year: 1972
Track Description:
I can't think of a better opening for any album I have ever heard in that it sets the dramatic tone for the rest of what is to come. It is also just bloody good!

Track 7 from Slowhand
Length: 00:03:01
Year: 1977
Track Description:
This recording of this song makes me want to commit a felony, and the felony is...murder. Eric Clapton can play guitar a bit, no question, and he has made some seminal recordings, but... This song means a great deal to me, always has, since it was first recorded by its composer, John Martyn. Eric, on the other hand, takes a thing of beauty and throws it away in such slipshod fashion...It is the only recording I have ever heard that sounds as if it took less time to record than the actual running time of the track! It is not the worst record ever though. We will get to that! Sorry Mr Clapton, but I am armed and I am coming for you!

Track 8 from The Best Band You Never heard In Your Life(Disc 1)
Length: 00:05:19
Year: 1991
Track Description:
Thought we had run out of songs about sex, did you? Well Ravel reputedly wrote Bolero with the act of sex in mind, what with all those peaks and troughs, a rousing climax, etc. Here Uncle Frank and his last road band play a quite touching version of the piece.

Track 18 from Country Memories (Disc 2 - Various Artists)
Length: 00:03:52
Year: 0000
Track Description:
The awfulness of this record is awe inspiring really. Wink, bless him, tells us in spoken word over syrupy mushy music style just why a deck of cards reminds him of the bible. Hearing this is one of those experiences one should have in life just the once, so you know!

Track 17 from King Of The Delta Blues Singers
Length: 00:02:39
Year: 1998
Track Description:
Ok, this track was 9 years old in 1944, but I am pretty sure that blues performers in roadhouses all over the southern states would still be singing this, with lyrics that were amzingly explicit for the age. "Now, you can squeeze my lemon 'til the juice runs down my leg..." Was Robert Johnson the Snoop Dog of his day? We can only speculate!

Track 7 from Present Arms In Dub
Length: 00:04:15
Year: 1981
Track Description:
I always found UB40 to be worthy but just a mite bland. When they released a dub version of their "Present Arms" Lp though, I heard a recording of an altogether different dancehall vibe. This version of the best known song from the set is a much stronger statement than the original, despite missing almost all the vocal track!

Track 19 from Love
Length: 00:04:45
Year: 2006
Track Description:
This could have gone in at number ten, the remix one, but for the fact that I don't think this is in anyway better than the original of any one of these tracks. George Martin's remix for the Cirque Du Soleil is fascinating though. The way that bits that were never meant to blend together work is testament to the quality of the material and the recordings. Sometimes on the album Martin strips bare some of the recording, allowing us to glimpse elements we may not have noticed otherwise. Here he weaves these pieces into something readily identifiable as "Beatles" yet with a freshness I didn't really expect.

Track Description:
The song that got me through high school. This was the easiest one to do of the fifteen. Cooper's anti school, pro summer vacation anthem was turned into a chant for me and the rest of the fifth form lads at Finchley Manorhill Comprehensive! "We can't even think of a word that rhymes!"

Long before being knocked up with Eddie Murphy's illegitimate child, Scary Spice was on top of the world. Now, she's nothing but washed up. It's kind of sad, really. Just by scoring third place in this contest, you've got infinitely more street cred than Scary. Congrats!
