This is a mix of songs from some of my favourite films. It's not, however, a "best of the soundtracks" sort of mix. I've borrowed heavily from the films of Gregg Araki because I just love his soundtracks (and the films they relate to of course). This mix is relaxing and dreamy and, in my opinion, flows nicely. My least favourite part of making a mix is trying to get the tracks ordered in a way that sounds right and by the time I've finished listening to it through a million times I tend to be sick of the songs and not want to hear it again for a while. That hasn't happened with this one, thank goodness. This is my first mix here and I may mess some things up so please go easy on me!

tracklist

1 Pixies : River Euphrates
I love the Pixies. I seriously worry about anyone who doesn't. This song was used in the film "The United States of Leland" (as well as two other Pixies tracks and some other gems) but unfortunately there was never an official soundtrack released. I thought I'd start of the mix with a real corker to get people's attention.

2 Ride : Drive Blind
I'm heading into shoegaze territory now and, although Ride will never be up there with the greats, this track was a welcome addition to the mix. Drive Blind was used in the film "Mysterious Skin" and is the first of the Gregg Araki-borrowed songs on this compilation.

3 My Bloody Valentine : Sometimes
Sophia Coppola has used some great tunes in her films, and this (from "Lost In Translation") is one of the best. I could have chosen something a little more obscure, but I decided to go with the classic. I think it payed off.

4 Joy Division : Atmosphere
I think everyone will agree that a mix always benefits from a Joy Division song! This track (and video) was used to great effect in the fantastic film "24 Hour Party People". I really love the transition of this song to the next for some reason...

5 The Cure : Plainsong
Love, love, love the Cure! There were a lot of songs I could have chosen from "Marie Antoinette" (it really is a stellar soundtrack) but Plainsong is one of my all time favourites so it seemed like a no-brainer. Especially since I have a friend I want to give this mix to who needs a good introduction to the band. I really like the transition from this song to the next as well. I'm usually so bad at that part.

6 Slowdive : Shine (The Splendiforous Locust Mix)
Gregg Araki does it again, this time for the film "Splendor". Perfect after Plainsong (you'll have to listen to the mix to see what I mean) and deliciously dreamy and lush.

7 Lush : I Have The Moon
Speaking of Lush! This cover of one of my favourite Magnetic Fields songs was used in Gregg Araki's film "Nowhere" and, even though the original is still my favourite, they did a marvellous job covering it. One of the prettiest songs I've ever heard.

8 Cocteau Twins : Summerblink
This lovely Cocteau Twins track is another inspired song choice from Gregg Araki for his flick "The Doom Generation". I'm not sure whether or not I'm entirely happy with the transition between these songs, but what can you do?

A cover I actually enjoy more than the original, this song was used wonderfully in the David Lynch film "Lost Highway" and then omitted from the soundtrack! Madness. Anyway, it's on mine.

10 Julee Cruise : Questions in a World of Blue
I'm starting to regret picking songs other people haven't because adding them to the database is a bitch! Anyway, this is a lovely track from the prequel film "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me". If you haven't seen Twin Peaks, you should.

11 Mazzy Star : Happy
Mazzy Star contributed three songs to the little seen film "Down In The Valley" starring Edward Norton. This is my favourite of the three (well, the one that fit best on my mix anyway). Peter Salett's original songs from the film are worth checking out too.

12 The Breeders : Do You Love Me Now?
I love this song. It was featured in the film "May" (as well as another Breeders track) and, again, there was no official soundtrack released. It bugs me so much when studios do this because it always seems to happen to films with worthwhile soundtracks!

13 Sonic Youth : sunday

15 Radiohead : Talk Show Host
I'm not sure which version of this song was used in "Romeo & Juliet" because I don't actually own the soundtrack, but the version I'm using is the 4 minute 16 second one. I'm in love with this song. It could be to do with the handclaps, but I just adore it. When I heard it playing in the wonderfully acted film "Half Nelson" I made a little squeal. It wouldn't make sense to omit this song from my mix.

18 Devotchka : How It Ends
Again, not the version from "Little Miss Sunshine" but this will have to do. It fits on anyway, which is what counts. I just couldn't resist putting a song with the word "end" in it as the last song on my mix. That rarely happens and it amused me. Yes, I'm easily amused, why do you ask? I wonder if Peter Salett and Ed Norton are friends or something, because I dinstinctly remember a Peter Salett song in that crappy priest/rabbi movie he did with Ben Stiller.

Oh, also, nice mix!
