Ok, so as a newcomer, i thought i'd try and just start with the basics. my first was a break up mix and i thought i'd follow up with a road mixtape.
typically, for a road trip mix you want to use equal parts whimsy, songs that everyone knows and can sing along with, and trucking fast down the highway songs. however, as i was putting this together and thinking of my favorite road trip music, it ended up being all sunny afternoon and rollicking jubilance. well, sometimes you just have those kinds of days. so enjoy the mix, even if it is a little saccharine.

1	Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros : Johnny Appleseed
	So Joe Strummer from the Clash made this series of albums with his new band and some of it is just pure world music silliness and some of it is top notch clash-era kind of music. global a go-go belongs to the former category. This song, however, is a lot of fun despite its corniness and it is a great way to open a tape and a drive. its cheery and carefree and is accompanied by about a dozen instruments. SHOW MORE

3	Buena Vista Social Club : Chan Chan
	Its been a while since I have listened to this album, but I can't believe it wasn't in the database already. I think this is the best song on the album, played by Cuban guitarist Compay Segundo, and it fits right next to the Taj Mahal song on the mix. 	Changing the tempo a little bit. I like the energy of this song. I like this band a lot. Instrumentals are also good for travelling and Animal Collective does a good variation on instrumental, adding in their yelps and moans and such. SHOW MORE

This mix could have Jessica by the Allman Brothers or some such song on it, but I just like this one a lot better. Uncle Tupelo has got the playful freewheeling picking down perfect, so here it is. 11	Van Morrison : Into the Mystic
	When I hear this, I'd much rather be all rolling around and dewy somewhere in a field in Ireland with Van Morrison. But it works alright on American highways as well. Nice and whimsical. Best song on Moondance. SHOW MORE

	The fact that I've had to enter so many of the songs into the database made me think at first, maybe the database is very incomplete. but then I saw that there are about half a dozen john zorn albums. then i thought maybe my taste (not obscure, a bit country) just isn't meant for mixtapecollective. well, maybe so. But! Gillian Welch: this song is a beautiful, sad tribute. It goes nicely after Nico and starts to wind the tape down towards the close. It also goes along with the sunny highway theme running throughout. SHOW MORE

	Its good to mix things up a bit, especially when the mix is winding down. This song is jumpy and catchy, even more so that most of Grandaddy's songs. Also, thanks to the greatest zombie movie made in the last decade, I cannot seperate the thought of road trips and this song. Travelling is so much more fun, afterall, when right after a semi-apocolypse. SHOW MORE
