description:
I attempted to make a mix based not on the music, but by song titles that I found interesting or amusing. Later, I edited the list and tried to pick the songs that made for the best listening experience. It has some tempo ruts, but otherwise it is a fun listen.

tracklist

1 The White Stripes : You're Pretty Good Looking (for a Girl)
I like this track as the jump-off; it sets the right mood and eases the listener in. It also highlights the weakness of my premise, though, as in this song, like others, the cleverness does not go far past the title.

Kissing the Lippless? Because of that extra P, I am wondering if I would ever want to kiss someone who has not heard the glory that is Funkytown!

Realized I never actually rated this even though I took part in discussion...

Mix is a little long for my tastes...I find that 15 is about my track tolerance (both in listening and in reading), but that is just a personal preference.

I don't care for all of the bands, but the variety is excellent. New/old/hip/not-so-hip, etc.

Descriptions are good. +1 point for acknowledging the weakness in the premise. +1 point for still coming out with a pretty good mix based on the theme, and +1 point for the arrested development reference.

SUPREGRASS, lolz and yes. Most of the music is pretty good (Smiffs! Hecks yeah!) and the art is pretty. Good reason for a mix and I give it plus points.

I thought this was a really great mix. tengo, stereolab, guided, SUPERGRASS!!!!! etc I looked through the list and was thinkin right on. Descriptions/comments can make a mixtape better, but I totally understand when you just don't feel like going in depth on it. Shit, sometimes there isn't a way to describe the way a track makes you feel with words, so fucking what. Great mix.

One's personal evaluation of the bands / songs can't be left out the equation; I just don't like the idea of automatic deductions based on certain inclusions. But, anyway, to each his own, and thanks to you all for putting thought into it.
P.S., Morrissey loves you.

oh don't get me wrong, it's not all in the descriptions....if it is all shitty music I still will mark it down...but the way I see it...-5 is reserved for shitty music/shitty descriptions...+5 is reserved for great music/reasoning....everything in between is some balance of the two

I completely agree with you fearlessweaver about the care/creativity/explanation and the "wanting to listen to artists I normally would not". That is how I have been trying to rate mixes ... although part of the ratings system is that people can rate it however they want...this can sometimes be bad if people don't share your taste in music... In the end though, this whole site is about expression and sharing musical interests, and as the site grows the community will form cliques of people who appreciate mixes/music for the same reasons as you.

In response to sledgbrainerd (and the community as a whole that happens to read this), I think we should be rating the mixes in terms of care, creativity, explanation, etc., rather than on personal taste. I *could* automatically detract for Tool or Moby, but I'd rather someone showed me a mix that made me want to listen to those artists I normally would not.

I was the one who deducted points for morrisey, and I do it for the smiths too. Which 1) isn't in bad taste, and 2) Is completely in the spirit of this site, yes?
